Dodgers weighing big contract trade
As the trade deadline approaches, General Manager Ned Colletti said Tuesday he has not had a definitive conversation with owners Frank and Jamie McCourt to determine whether the Dodgers can take on a big contract through a trade this summer. The Dodgers' gate revenue has dropped this season. The team did not raise prices on tickets or parking, and attendance has dropped 6%, as compared to the same number of home games last season. Colletti reiterated he hopes to acquire a pitcher, but whether that pitcher is a starter or reliever might be determined by what players other teams make available before the July 31 deadline.

Pitching is pretty thin out there ... it's gonna have to be a blockbuster or else they ain't gettin' much ...

Hindsight of course is 20/20 but evidently the Dodgers won't need Manny to make the play-offs and could have used the money being squandered on him to get the pitching that could actually take them into the World Series.

They can probably get someone to take part of Pierre's salary... he has been legit while Manny is out and teams can use his services

The Dodgers are in a very good situation, They are in first place and have a few players that they can package in a trade. I don't know why but Manny's name keeps popping into my head?

If the Dodgers get to the playoffs they most certainly will want Manny in the lineup.

Maybe, maybe not. Manny's not getting any younger, he's rusty from being out, and he won't get away with the roids after having been busted. Manny was good, but that was then and this is now.

You're crazy. Nobody hits better in the playoffs, you can have all the talent in the world, roids or no roids, and look like a dufus in the playoffs. Ask AROD.
The playoffs are about nerves and experience, Dodgers need to keep him and Pierre.

The Dodgers are off the hook for 1/3 of his salary thanks to his forced vacation. Adding him to the lineup will yield similar results like last year. It will be like getting a hired gun/legit bat to give them post season presence. Without Manny last season they don't get by the Cubs, nor would they have even had any shot vs the Phils.

I agree, AB, if any of you have ever coached any sports, you will find that the cream rises to the top in these nerve-racking situations like the play-offs. Reggie Jackson comes to mind. Manny is relaxed and steady in those situations, and he's proven he can hit during that part of the post-season. "Brilliant, young pitchers," how are they in the play-offs. AROD, I'm with you on that AB, after all these years, he has not proven himself in the play-offs...he chokes. Couple of pitchers come to mind who have some merit in the play-offs: Jeff Weaver and Derek Lowe...they're actually won games.

The Dodgers only saved only about 3 million this year when Manny was suspended. Yes, he lost nearly 1/3 of his salary, but he's only making 10 million this year, and the rest of his 25 million dollar salary is deferred money. He was due to make 5 million in June 2010, 2011, and 2012. Because of the suspension, he will only receive about 3.5 million in each of those payments.

The Dodgers are "wannabes" who can't take the next step forward. Actually when "Manny Being Manny" comes back they will probably take two steps backwards !!!

The Dodgers are in great shape. Have a relatively low salary structure (around $100 mill) for a very big market team. They usually average 40,000 per game. When Manny is back attendance will rise. They can easily afford some very high priced talent but choose not to make a big move but they can if they want to.
