While there has been talk around the NBA from several scouts that the Celtics have been shopping guard Rajon Rondo, he isn't expected to be dealt. While unlikely, one Eastern Conference executive said the latest trade rumor included Rondo and forward Brian Scalabrine going to Memphis for guard Mike Conley and swingman Rudy Gay.

How does this information even get out? i bet it is all speculation.

Rudy Gay actually had a worse season in 08-09 than he did in 07-08, but no doubt would he benefit from being on the Celtics.

Another trade that doesn't make sense, Rajon is still on his Rookie Contract and an All-star caliber player why would you trade that? your just setting your organisation up for hardship.

It's too complicated to get the same value in return that would have the Celtics competing at the same level, ie Championship contention when healthy....so why tinker with the machine? lolz...it's just not worth it.

It's also not quite Rondo for Gay. For all of his struggles, Conley is significantly more valuable than Scalabrine.

Good point... I dont think Rondo is quite an all-star caliber player yet... He is extremely in consistent, as much as anyone in the league...

Agreed. Mike Conley is a starting PG in the NBA...Scalabrine is just an overpriced role player.

And I don't see why Memphis would make this deal?

June 24, 2009  08:12 AM ET

The arrival of All Star point guard Stephon Marbury has made Rondo expendable and well all know Ainge has to get rid of at least two of the star players to balance budget and keep the team competitive for years to come but sacrifcing Rondo is as ludacris as running a three point shot play for Shaquille O'neal.

Good riddance to a GM's clouded mind.

I am no Rondo fan, so I cant see why Memphis would make this trade. I think Gay is about to take the next step in his game, I wouldnt mind having him in NY.

June 24, 2009  08:22 AM ET

This would be STUPID for Memphis to do. Rudy Gay is an emerging player that not many people appreciate because he plays for Memphis. He should have been the most improved player instead of Turkoglu a season ago (compare the numbers) and could emerge as a star if in the right situation. But the question I have is where would he play? Unless the Celtics are trading Jesus Shuttlesworth (because Pierce isn't going anywhere), Gay would be coming off of the bench next season, and would immediately become one of the best sixth man options in the league.

You dunce, yesterday, you were killing rondo, now you like him

June 24, 2009  08:29 AM ET

I defended Rondo yesterday, and a really good pg, already, that only has upside, but I wonder why the Celts cant wait to ship him out...I have read on other sites, that he may be difficult to coach, but I still think the celts should try to work it out

June 24, 2009  08:33 AM ET

lol...Either the celts have an over inflated view of rondo
or someone REALLY dumb is making up these rumors
just to piss everyone off....

Rondo + scrub for gay/conley ???
- PLEASE-

June 24, 2009  08:36 AM ET

too many rondo rumors. he has pushed the wrong button i guess.

June 24, 2009  08:36 AM ET

I really like Rudy Gay's game but I dont know if I want to give up Rondo at this point. Gay should have already established himself as a player in this league-his talent is that good-maybe the consistent losing has gotten to him.

He's on MEMPHIS....how exactly can he 'establish' himself?

Plus he's only 22 -
and has averaged 19pts for the last 2 years....
they also picked up Mayo last year who took shots away from him

Ainge has been given the opportunity to put these rumors away. Obviously he's shopping Rondo--the question is why. Rondo has improved every year since he entered the league. There is no reason to believe that Rondo will not be one of the premier point guards in the league. The rub against him is that he can't shoot--yet he shot 50% from the floor this year. His percentage from downtown isn't the best, but the Celtics don't need that shot from him. At 23, this is the future. It is a huge mistake to deal him, and allow him to become what he's obviously going to be, somewhere else.

June 24, 2009  08:50 AM ET

conley looked like he has the skills to become an all-star pg when they finally gave him the starting job. why would memphis trade 2 of their top 3 players for another good pg and a bum? memphis has a good young team and they'll only get better with the upcoming draft. it looks like the celtics are trying to sell high on rondo after he had a great post-season but nobody is willing to trade 2-3 of their main players to get him

June 24, 2009  08:51 AM ET

More speculation. Anyway, I will stand by the fact that Boston would be stupid to deal Rajon Rondo. It just doesn't make any sense why he would want to move an All-Star caliber point guard that fits in well with KG and Paul Pierce.

I understand the need to move Ray Allen, his age and his contract, but why sacrifice Rondo to do it?

I think that would be a stupid trade for memphis. But I also know that memphis sent Paul Gasol to LA for Kwame and Marc Gasol.
