Nuggets want to lock up Andersen, Karl

The Nuggets' top priorities are re-signing center Chris Andersen and likely working on a contract extension with coach George Karl, according to NBA sources. Andersen played last season on a one-year, $998,398 contract. He likely will get a multiyear deal, and Denver could give Andersen an extra year if it means paying him less money next season to help with the salary cap. The team has yet to sit down and make an offer to Karl, who has one year left on his contract. Meanwhile, the agent for unrestricted free agent Dahntay Jones said the "goal" is for Jones to return to Denver, but that Jones desires a multiyear deal. He signed with Denver last summer for one year at $926,678. "I think Dahntay would like to make a home, feel like he'll be a part of something for a long period of time," agent Mark Bartelstein said. "We're not going to rule out anything else, but he'd prefer a lengthy deal. ... We'll go through the world of free agency. He's proven he can be a really valuable piece to a very good team. Those guys are important."

The Birdman is a good role player and you can never have enough bigs. As long as he has his act together, then you might as well commit.

As far as Karl goes: you need to keep him and I doubt he wants to go.

The sound you don't hear is the Nugget players tuning out Coach Karl, whose shelf life has just about expired with this fractious bunch of talented-but-wild group of young players. I hope I'm wrong, but George never seems to be able to get his clubs beyond being on the brink of being contenders.

Keep Andersen, dump Karl. There's a reason none of the teams he's ever taken to the playoffs have won a championship, and he's it.

Not true. No coach is any better than his roster. Amazing how much Karl improved after the Billups trade. All you can ask is that a coach gets the best out of what he's been given to work with. I think Karl did that.

Andersen could play on my team-he plays hard every minute he is out there. Plays D hard n runs the floor.

Keep the Bird Man. The nuggets will lose all motivation to play D. Let Jones and Carter go. They had good D. But with the Bird and Billups we can use your minutes. Couldn't stop Kobe anyways.
