Cavs still want Varejao

The Cavs still want to re-sign Anderson Varejao. Not only do they still need a young big man but Andy is a perfect foil for teams that would give the Cavs matchup problems with Shaq. He can play along side him and also play center when the Cavs play small. But there is no doubt this gives the Cavs leverage in contract talks and opens up options if Andy's price is too high.

The Cavs losing two non factor players - u'd think are a minimum 50 win team again...especially in the East.

They shud retain him although he has some negative attributes but mostly he is an important role player on the team and shud team well with Shaq in the front court.

Shaq is washed up, they are still the second best team in the east... maybe third if Boston makes a move or two.

Good to have a BSchwartz sighting. How are you doing, man?

Respectfully, I disagree with you on Shaq but keeping Varejao makes sense. Shaq plays best off a power forward who hustles and focuses solely on his defense.

let this bum go please. i would rather have Candace Parker on the cavs than him. no post game or mid range game. wtf is the point???

Varejao is not a bum.. He is not a top PF but is is significant to a team b/c when he is out there he gives 110 percent every play. He gets off rebounds that lead to extra possesions and he play ok defense.

Bums are people like Kwame Brown, Desagana Diop, or Mark Madsen, Jonathan Bender, Darius Miles, Darko Milicic, Shawn Bradley, Lebron James (HAHA just kidding). but hopefully you get my point.

I forgot the great Sam Bowie.

June 25, 2009  09:50 AM ET

He'll be the best compliment to Shaq but they still wouldn't get far unless they are able to swing another deal for a young top tier power forward like Zach Randolph.

Randolph be on some other ish sometimes but you make a great point he would fit in good with the cavs.

Everyone is calling me about this Shaq deal and I keep telling them that they need more than Shaq to win a championship. The major teams are deep with talent. Lakers has the deepest lineup with the best player in the league. Boston has the the best team overall as far as 1-12. Orlando has a good starting linup with a really good six man. Cleveland has Mo, LBJ, and Shaq. They need more to make this work.

I and everyone else agrees...luckily that everyone else includes Danny Ferry and the Cavs front office as they are still looking for a long athletic wing player. Gilbert is spending money this offseason and we should be able to get another good piece. CHarlie V is still an option even though they cleared space with the RJeff trade

With LBJ, Moe, and Shaq the Cavs need to focus on the shooting guard and power forward spots. Varejao is a serviceable power forward / center combo player. He matches up better with quicker players that would give shaq difficulty. On the downside he has no offensive skills and teams constantly ignore him to double on the other players (player in LBJ). For the right lower price, he is a worthwhile resign. It seems to me that the odd man out is Igauskus (spelling?). I am waiting to hear that they are getting rid of him. Alot of money saved and no value with Shaq on the team.

look at his stats last year and games played- all UP
he ain't washed up, but he isn't a LONG-TERM answer there

As far as sideshow-
they ABSOLUTELY should try re-signing him ......for the right price
5-7 mil is plenty for a back-up forward.....
if someone is dumb enough to give him more- ta ta

Inside Hoops is reporting that Varejao will probably be packaged in a deal for Charlie Villanueva.

I hate the Bucks!

Why don't they even care?!!!

You should not be allowed to completely sabotage a team like that...

Resign Anderson, and pick-up Ron Artest he is the man the Cavs really need to look at!

If Hedo leaves, Orlando is not #1. Assuming health not being a big issue for any team, Boston is the best in the East.

but why would the buck want sideshow?
they are celarly trying to DUMP salary-
why would they want AV's newly signed deal ?

they don't have the $$$ available to get him straight up
he could only come via sign & trade

Charlie V aka CHarlie jumpshot aka Charlie dont like the paint! I guess that would be a good trade since they got Shaq hoggin the lane now. Yo Charlie V, drop a 3 in Hedo's face next year!
