Shaquille O'Neal had drawn consistent interest, including a recent inquiry from Chicago that involved Brad Miller, and earlier talks with New Orleans until the Hornets balked at giving up Tyson Chandler.

How about every restaurant in Chicago? Shaq would have put a lot of meat on their monthly accounts.

There isn't enough sausage in that town to keep the big man satisfied.

Call it the rise and fall of Cleveland. Shaq is even older than Ilgauskus... don't give me he's productive crap. The guy is 37. He can't possibly go a 100 games in high gear. Wasn't he on the Heat team that got swept a couple of years ago and didn't make the playoffs last season?

This is a pure Dumb Ferry move - lets get the old players... they've seen it all. Little did he realize they are done too cos nobody can defy age... oh well. Boston, Philly and Orlando must be rejoicing... let the bricked free throw bells start ringing... clang clang clang....!!!

Please forget to mention the Championship he helped win a year before they got swept- i guess you could just be negative...

I didn't see Ilgauskas getting All NBA THIRD team?

It's pretty much win win for the cavs - the players they got rid of did little for the Cavs winning 60+ games.

When has a jump shooting prone Centre commanded a double team? Shaq still does - whether critics like it or not - and he can box out better than Little Z.

I know how badly you want LeBron to be a Knick, but you can't be serious Lostwill. I know you say some stuff in jest but you really cannot believe what you just posted?

Shaq played 75 games last season and he put up better stats then the year he played with Wade to win that ring for the Heat.

Shaq is 37, granted. However, the Cavs finally got a legit second option for LeBron and cleared up enough cap space that if this doesn't work out then they can go out there and sign another top free agent in 2010 to play with LeBron in Cleveland.

Agree 100 percent. The Cavs gave up nothing. Absolutely nothing and got a guy with 4 rings and determined as all hell to get his fifth this upcoming season. It's an absolute win-win for them.

That was a good trade. But the Cavs will not get pass boston. Unless another freak injury happen to KG again. Shaq will give the cavs a better team but there will be alot of hack-a-shaq.

And the reason why he played 75 games last season is because phoenix has the best medical staff and they rested him alot of games.

I see the cavs resting him against scrub teams and setting a limit on the minutes he play per game during the season.

And shaq is not a dwight howard stopper. the last time I check shaq flopped against dwight.

But all in all the the cavs is only a little behind boston and that is because of the bench boston has. Leon Powe, Big baby, and crew.

The east just got a little interesting.

All good points.

Shaq being in Cleveland doesnt help their defense at all!!! They can score more cause Shaq is Shaq but he is a year older and still cant defend the pick n roll!!! Cavs had to do the deal cause they really didnt have to give up much and this is still an offensive upgrade at the least...

dwight avg 15pts when shaq checked him last year. and what bench besides house does boston have????

June 25, 2009  08:59 AM ET

Shaq is like that hot girl in school everyone wanted at one time but couldnt have..No she over the hill and used up but ppl still want a peice because they can say they had it for whats its worth...Phx rolled the dice and got him...Didnt make the playoffs...which should be a surprise to no one because how can you be a run in gun team and then bring in a over the hill center...The next team that gets him will regret it...He will be over paid and you wont get what you gave up to get him by then....

I agree that it doesn't help their defense but look at what it does help. Much like the Mavs, the Cavs didn't have a true scoring threat under the basket. With that one change it will make a big difference for the Cavs. Plus, some of the best post players in the NBA ever have not been so great at D. Sure, they block some shots but centers aren't known for mobility.

Now all I have to wonder is who Dallas will go for to replace Damp or should I say IF they go for a replacement. The Mavs have no chance with Damp being our primary center. They can win some games but aren't even close to being a championship caliber team with no one to go to in the paint.

Interesting...I like the Shaq to Cavs move. It's going to make for a nice Eastern Conference Playoffs this coming season.

Shaq couldn't stop Dwight. the only reason he probably avg 15 against Shaq was that orlando didn't give him the ball. March 3rd when shaq flopped Dwight had 21 on 14 shot attempts and was a +12 when he was on the court. Shaq had 19 with a + 5 on the report.

Now I bet you alot that Dwight Howard will come in next year with a better game b/c of the scrutnity of lack of offense in the Finals. So as I said before Shaq will not be a Dwight stopper. Maybe a Dwight agitator but I see Dwight getting the better of Shaq.

Leon Powe, Eddie House, Big Baby, Tony Allen (Defensive Purposes), Marbury should fit in better with a training camp with Boston.

And that is the same bench that took the Magic to a game 7. I think that was the same magic team that blew out the cavs out the gym in the Eastern Conference Finals.

Now look at the Cavs bench.

You have Hampton's Road own Joe Smith and who else. Don't say Boobie he had one good series and that was 3 or 4 yrs ago. Lets list them.

Joe Smith = Yes
Boobie = Maybe.. too inconsistent
Wally Szczerbiak = Yes
Lorenzen Wright = NO
Jawad Williams = NO
Darnell Jackson = NO
J.J. Hickson = NO
Tarence Kinsey = NO

Looking at that lineup. I would say boston has a better bench going into next year. And the bench was better than Cleveland's last year.

Having Shaq clogs up the paint-LBJ likes to drive to the basket a lot. That could be an issue-Bron better get that jumper going.

Also, who is going to matchup with Rashad lewis because he killed the cavs also. Shaq cannot guard Lewis nor Big Z nor Varejao.

The reason why the Lakers beat the Magic is because they matched up well with them.

Bynum/gasol could guard Dwight, Lamar Odom/ Gasol could guard Rashad Lewis. And Ariza/Odom could guard Turkolu. It's always about matchups.
