Chelios prefers Eastern Conference team
Chris Chelios grew up in Chicago, attended Wisconsin and played for the Canadiens and Blackhawks. The Wings acquired him at the trade deadline in 1999. While returning to his hometown might be appealing on one level, Chelios said his preference was to play in the Eastern Conference. "I would love to be in the East because of the travel," he said. "It's no question it's a lot easier -- on the body, on the mind and getting back and forth."

Ouch, Loved him in his non-wheel chair playing days. Hope for the best, I can see a one year contract in your future.

My guess is that he will end up playing for one of the Florida teams. Isn't that the place where all the senior citizens go.
But seriously, ayoung team like tha Caps might be a good place for him and his veteran leadership. He will still be a 7 or 8 Dman where ever he goes.

Hey, if a team is stupid enough to sign him then good for him. He won't play more than 40 regular season games. Why not retire at this point. Wasn't it bad enough being on the bench in the playoffs?

Of course, an Eastern team. He wants to join the Penguins, as it gives him the best chance to win the Cup. ...yeah, it doesn't have as much panache as Hossa, does it?

I think we need to get him together with Bettman. I believe he has a few suggestions for the betterment of the game. Might take Bettmans mind off CROSBY. Houston we have take off.

Do you think Tampa would sign him? They are hurting for Dmen and the vampire can surely add something to their lineup. No trade clause there so I don't see why he wouldn't end up there. I'm with Hf4life. This almost seems like a no-brainer unless Atlanta uses him as a marketing tool.

The travel is significantly easier in the East, and the play is less physical as well. (Sorry, but I have to do this.....of course those are reasons why cindy and the mallkid play in the East.)

Maybe he can sign a contract that only calls for him to play home games.
He is only good for 40 games anyway.

At his worst, Chelios is likely better than most of the D-men the Caps had on the ice, especially in Round 2, Game 7, the second-worst drubbing of the entire playoffs (I give the first place award to Detroit's 5-0 whoop-down on Pittsburgh, which made the latter's rise to the Cup that much more impressive...sort of....but I digress....)
That said, however, not sure if adding experience to the D line is the answer in Washington. It might be...seemed to work that first year when we brought Fedorov over, but that had as much to do with the fact that there was someone else to speak Russian with Semin and calm him down than with anything else. Nonetheless, it worked fairly well...a team that was all but statistically eliminated from the playoffs wound up winning the spot late (to the perennial ire of Hurricanes fans), only to lose a Game 7 heart-breaker in overtime in Round 1 that year. Made it to the second round this year before also tanking in a Game 7 on home ice. So, maybe having Chelios as a "paid advisor" who occasionally skates a shift or three might not be a bad idea....but somehow, I just don't think that's the answer for the Caps' D problems. Dear God, I hope the front office doesn't fall for the "experienced" line again...
Much as I hate him, I think the Caps would have been better off with someone like Pronger, and it's like nails on a chalkboard just to even type that, let alone think it. He cheats, he's a bastage, but can't deny he can energize a defense...the arsehole...

I so know what you mean. I didn't like him when he came to Edmonton, and I didn't like him when he left, but he was the most significant reason they got to the Cup Finals that year.
