Sergei Zubov's Dallas house is for sale. Zubov could indeed be readying himself to say goodbye to Dallas or he simply could be moving to a better place. The unrestricted free agent will turn 39 on July 22, is coming off an injury-plagued season in which he played only 10 games and still is recovering from major hip surgery. As such, the Stars are in a wait-and-see mode with him. But, with free agency starting on July 1, Zubov could sign with any other team in the NHL.

Definitely the most underrated defenceman in the NHL over the last decade, bbut how much does he have left after completely altering his hip?

June 26, 2009  08:42 AM ET

Nobody knows how much he has left, and that's the problem. D-men can still be effective at that age, but the injuries spell trouble. I'd be a little surprised if we re-signed Zubie, unless he gave us a massive hometown discount.

Zubie would be one my top D-men shopping list anytime - can't forget those leetchesque plays deeking 3 guys from the blueline and in or knocking out guys in a fight with a single punch - but the latest injuries....

Nooooo! Zuby was the glue in Dallas, man we are going to miss him.

A friend of my neighbors moms sisters husband was talking to a guy at this bar who knows a guy that owns a lawn care service. One of his employees told him that he was cutting grass down the street from Mike Modanos house and he had a For Sale sign on his car.

June 26, 2009  10:32 AM ET

Never mind. Now he says it might have been the house next door.

June 26, 2009  10:47 AM ET

See, I heard the very same thing from my girlfriend's sister's boyfriend's neighbour's physiotherapist's pool boy's brother's buddy who happens to be Modano's cousin's wife's 4th cousin's locker neighbour at the gym they work out at, haha

You could have just said "A friend of my neighbors, Uncle"

Zubov is probably looking to sign with a contender or go to the KHL. The KHL is grabbing all the fringe players and guys that are at the end of their careers looking for more cash or to play closer to home (Fedorov).

I dont think he is coming off an injury plagued season where he played 10 games, he didnt play at all last year and missed nearly the entire year the year before. However at 39 and you have had two hip surgeries already? I would let him stay, for the vet minimum. After earning millions the last two years and barely playing he should owe the club. However it might be time for my team to break away from the oldies, Modano's last year, no Zubie, maybe ship off Lehtinen this year and Turco next year, time for changes!

June 26, 2009  01:34 PM ET

Maybe he just wants a bigger house or a smaller house in a new location.

June 26, 2009  02:38 PM ET

He should just retire. Injuries have caught up to him.

June 26, 2009  11:14 PM ET

He also owns a house on the next street. Same size four years older with a few more amenities. The taxes on the two combined are about $100,000. Maybe he's getting ready for that pay cut and hometown deal.

June 28, 2009  10:30 AM ET

He is probably about done. I can see him signing somewhere to be a 3rd line defenseman. The KHL deal may also be accurate. He is old school. Looks like he is completely out of shape, chain smokes, but dang could he play. Thanks Zubie!!
