Ainge:"I'm not trading Rondo"

It's been a wild couple of days on the Rajon Rondo Watch and Celtics boss Danny Ainge would like to make a couple of things perfectly clear: "People are trying to make Rondo into a Manny situation," Ainge said as he prepared for last night's draft (a.k.a. silent night). "All I said was that he needs to work on his leadership skills, he can't be late for a playoff game, and he needs to mature as far as competing on a consistent basis. I'd said all that before. All those trade rumors are just a bunch of bull. I'm not trading Rondo."

Plenty of blame to go around. Was Ainge's assessment right? Yes. But is going through the media to make a point and then shopping a guy the best way to make your point? No. If Rondo was talking to the media about him and his performance, I don't think Ainge would be too thrilled with it.

I'm all for giving a reality check to a budding star who shows signs of being irresponsible. I'm also all for doing it in the privacy of your own clubhouse (wherever that may be). That being said, Rondo is on the verge of being a major player and having his head on straight is the best thing for him. I'm a fan!

Everything would be clearer if Kg was healthy and the Celtics were able to see what they could do/could have done...it wasn't really a picture perfect title defense (out second round of playoffs) - so keep the core together and try again.

Many young players got to improve and develop...the main issues is attrition and age with the Celtics.

Rondo is clearly our guy but sometimes you have to do things the old fashion way. The draft was weaker than I thought it would be-nothing to trade Rondo for anyway. Like what we got with the 58th pick. Second ranked scorer in the nation-I'll take it...

now ur not lol. Cause every1 turned down the deal. trust me if the right deal comes along hes gone.

Airing your dirty laundry in public is never a good thing ... keep it in-house

June 26, 2009  09:08 AM ET

All I said was.......

You shouldn't have said ANYTHING

regardless- they shouldn't really make any mores until they
see how KG is doing- if he ain't coing back for a while-
they need to move ray, since he's gone anyway
if KG's doing well- keep it all together & give it a run

you could make that statment about virtually every player.

If it becomes a distraction, he WILL be traded.

June 26, 2009  09:23 AM ET

Ainge should have made this statement weeks ago. Smart money says they tried to move him, and it didn't work out. What we're hearing now is simply damage control. Any problem Ainge had with Rondo should have been taken care of in the privacy of his office. It's called management.

Same thing Josh McDaniels/ Denver said... I don't trust GMs or coaches word when it come to trades. It's a business. if you get a deal that you feel is worth it then you will trade whomever.

exactly. rondo is just as much a detriment as he is an asset. can't dispute that

I beg to differ. If you can't get equal value in trade, (and they can't) you address the problem. Rondo's issues are minor compared to Dennis Rodman's.

exactly what i was thinking.

he needs to trade the bum!

June 26, 2009  11:15 AM ET

Rondo may be immature, but he's not Dennis Rodman bad. He's late for one game, and still gives his team a triple double, and he's a charity, friendly kind of guy.

June 26, 2009  11:26 AM ET

Everyone is immature to some degree when they come into the league. He'll improve the leadership. He is too talented a player to not improve in that area especially with Doc, KG, Paul, Ray etc all around him. He isn't a punk like Iverson or someone else so he has the ability - he just has to mature and WANT to be a leader. Will he be the greatest leadership PG ever? I doubt it. Will he be a top 5 PG over the next 10 years if he works his tail off, let alone develops an 18 footer? Probably. Why would you trade him?

The DET trade made PERFECT sense for Boston and that would be the only reason to trade him is for that deal or something similar. Boston obviously needs a PG if they trade Rondo. If they trade Ray, they need another starter as well. Stucky and Rip aren't Rondo and Ray, but with Prince in that deal, that would've been awesome because it gives Boston someone that can play on the perimeter in the SF - something they don't have since Posey left.

With that said - they won't get equal talent for Ray and Rondo. Boston needs to get healthy, resign Big Baby because he'll give KG tons of rest this next year, and they need to sign someone that can replace what Posey did in order to give Paul some rest too. They get someone to replace Posey's scoring threat he had + DEF, the Big 3 get rest because Rondo and Big Baby can play some mintutes and score.

Imagine if it was Marbury that got bad mouthed... the whole Celtic world will be in trouble. This clown is an unrestricted free agent but nobody's talking about him... it seems GM's forgot he exists... oh well if somebody put a padlock on his mouth please unlock it... I can use a comic break!

June 26, 2009  11:53 AM ET

I'd bet my house that, in 2/3 days Fannation will have another Rondo is getting traded thread.
