The Michigan State Spartans continued their recent recruiting roll by landing instate quarterback Joe Boisture, who was committed to Boston College, but switched over to his homestate squad today.

Interesting game of chess. In state QB Robert Bolden was rumored to have wanted to go to MSU and I think MSU was counting on it but "supposedly" Bolden's father had other plans for Bolden, like PSU. SO good job to Sparty for flipping Boisture. Looks like Dumbtonio has his own snake oil.

Translation: The Spartans' boosters filled up a duffel bag with cash and left it on his porch

Not surprising. MSU is stable. BC is not. You go with the program that is stable.

Good for Michigan State! Now, if the Spartans can garner the moxi to beat Big Blue two years in a row...

Bucking the trend in Ann Arbor last year was pretty big for sparty, especially with that Pylon touchdown that shouldn't have counted. John L Smith's Spartans lose that game in the second half, dantonio seems like he's the real deal. My beef with the Spartans is that they ran Javon Ringer into the ground, I questioned his call to keep him in that FIU game in a typhoon instead of giving the other RB's some snaps. Should be interesting to see if they use Cousins as a stop gap or if they play for the future by going with a frosh, either option will be better than Hoyer, who was a complete meathead. The 2010 UofM/MSU game is going to be epic, the should both be top 20 teams, Sparty should be holding a two game winning streak and we will see if they can truly shed the "little brother" moniker.

You don't think Dantonio will go elsewhere if offered a chance? Michigan State is pretty good, but it seems that it will usually be in the shadow of the in-state rival.

Are you kidding me with this??? It's been awhile since they have been stable. The Vol has it absolutely right. The first decent gig offered up and Dantonio is gone.

If Dantonio were younger, then I would be more worried about it. However, given that he is in his early 50s, I think he is there for the long haul. The only job I could see him leaving for would be Ohio State.

However, you didn't address the topic at hand. MSU is more stable than BC. Dantonio has been there a couple seasons while BC is starting over again. QB knows what he gets with Michigan State. He doesn't with BC, which makes Michigan State attractive.

Nope not kidding at all. MIchigan State is stable, and it has been a while, but they are stable now. Dantonio is older, so while he could still be lured away. it would take a top 5 program to do it. Anything short of a top 5 program, and its a pipe dream to think you can get him. PRobably a top 5 program is a stretch. Ohio State is the only school I would be worried about him leaving for.

Warden seems to hold on to a few bad feelings. I think it was Purdon't who used the trem "snake oil". I think you're just mad because you know MSU will beat your skunk bears in back to back years.

Good job MSU!

Purely speculative, of course, but I believe the 2009 game will be more competitive/closer is score than most people believe.

This is very good for the Dantonio led Spartans though. I do believe they are on their way to being a very good football team for as long as he stays.

I look forward to this intensifying rivalry.

Dantonio has expressed numerous times that he wants to end his career in East Lansing. kramer202 was right when he said that OSU would be the lone school he would take another job back and I have a rational for why that is.

Dantonio was bred and raised in Big Ten football, Nick Saban is the exception, but most coaches that come to the Big Ten tend to stay there. UofM was really the first real football school(obviously you exclude Illinois, for they are not particularly known for their football over the last three decades) that went outside the box with a coaching hire, most of the other teams tend to hire within the family of big ten experienced coaches. The reason for this is that they mold their programs toward a play style that can handle the inclement weather and smash-mouth nature of the game played in the frosty midwest. Dantonio comes from the Jim Tressell recruiting tree, established recruiting networks in states like Ohio and Indiana from his days in Cincinnati and currently has established a stranglehold in the state of Michigan. Since he has come to East Lansing, each year he has taken more and more of the top Michigan recruits from Ann Arbor.

The other thing you have to understand about Michigan State is that they generally take very good care of their coaches. Tom Izzo is second only to Coach K in security in college basketball, the university would do anything Tom wanted. I assure you that Dantonio has the full support of the university and they just built him a new $15.5 million, state of the art practice field and facilities. (They also installed new luxury and press boxes in '04)
