One of the teams who were very interested in moving up to take Hasheem Thabeet was the Houston Rockets, who were rumored to also have Thabeet on their wish list as a replacement for Dikembe Mutombo. The Grizzlies, though, opted to keep the pick and land Thabeet for all of the same reasons other teams were targeting him.

I mean again- drafting at the # 2 pick for a designated back-up?
That would've been simply BAD BUSINESS-
when they can sign a vet for minmum wage to play 15 minutes a night

I am a UConn fan and I'm telling you, this guy is SOFT in the middle.

The NBA Centers and Power Forwards are going to knock him on his butt. At UConn, he had Big East guards push him off the block.....

He needs to bulk up and drastically improve his footwork for stabilization in the post if he is going to succeed.

he will-
if you truly are a Uconn fan & watched him develop -
you'd HAVE to acknowledge that he has already made nice strides since he first got there.....he doesn't pick up cheap fouls as much - which is a MAJOR problem for young NBA bigs
He also HAS gotten bulkier - and EVERY college big has to

I can't call him soft- he blocks shots & rebounds-

But his ands are TERRIBLE and he likely will never develop a good
low-post offensive game....But I'd be very confident he can learn
a short jump shot at 7'2...if he does - he'll be effective enough
on offense - because defensively he'll be VERY good

He will improve, but he is soft.

DeJuan Blair owned him, playing very physical and thus taking Thabeet out of his game.

He'll learn though, and should be a quality NBA player.

I'd rather have them try to pry Amare with T-Mac and some scrubs. I just don't wanna live through another Lakers championship nightmare...

June 27, 2009  10:08 AM ET

They should push more to try to make the trade for Amare, throw in some money and future picks. Or involve a 3rd team, like the Knicks ...

- NY gets: Landry & TMac from HOU
They obtain a decent Lee substitution, an all star (when healthy, even do it is just 15 games) and more important, huge cap flexibility for next year as they get rid of Currys contract.
- PHO gets: Lee & Crawford from NY + Brooks & Hayes from HOU
They obtain a good PF substitution, two decent backups and the possible replacement of Nash, in the talented Brooks.
- HOU gets: Amare from PHO + Curry from NY
They obtain the perfect complement for their frontcourt and a backup C that was once considered as decent and that may regain some of his play because of the slow pace system.

lol....Blair is a MAN...FULLY developed already-
He absolutely owned him.....
who else did ??

You can't call someone 'soft' based on ONE match-up
It's like everyone calling Bosh soft playing against shaq.

Thabeet absolutely needs to get stronger....EVERY big does
when coming into the NBA-

Please explain your definition of soft

This is a weak draft, after Blake Griffin, everyone is a second-tier.

PHX trades Amare for Josh Smith, Za za Pachulia and a future draft pick

Players who can't dribble, shoot or pass usually don't become stars in the NBA. You want a star at #2 in the entire NBA Draft. Just saying.

Who is this NY / Crawford guy ?? Is it Jamal Crawford, who was traded to GSW 11/21/08: The Golden State Warriors acquired guard Jamal Crawford from the New York Knicks for forward Al Harrington. And was traded again to ATL this past week.

Stephen Crawford ... jamal as you have said, was traded months ago ...

Worst pick of the draft...a backup center that is soft and has less of a offensive game than shawn bradley at #2...TOTALLY ABSURD!!!

You pick a guy at 2nd for 10 minutes a game? Not smart, but sure...

The jury is still out on the foul machine. I think he will be a 14 and 9 guy. Is that a franchise centre's numbers?

the second coming of joe dumars taking darko
