Do Cubs regret signing Bradley?

08:56 AM ET 06.27 | The Cubs should have steered around the injury-prone, volatile Milton Bradley, but he hit so well last season in Texas (.321, 22 homers, a league-best .436 on-base percentage) that it was easy to ignore the "handle with care" label. That's old news now, of course. The question on the table is how best to deal with the situation, and Lou Piniella felt match to kerosene was in order because "water was flying all over" in the dugout after Bradley fired his batting helmet and, apparently, assaulted a Gatorade cooler. Piniella promised to detail his reasoning more Saturday, saying in the immediate aftermath only that he "had had enough" of the petulance. It was unclear if he was referring strictly to Bradley or the entirety of Team Dysfunction.

I've been upset with the signing from day one.

attitude is everything

Why is it ok for Zamrano to throw a tantrum but not somebody else?

Because Zambrano produces. Big difference.

Most Cub fans regret this signing.... until he starts hitting

If that ever happens?

He's also supposed to be a team leader. Attitude reflects leadership.

It is not okay but you also gotta look at it this way. Look at what Zambrano has done for the Cubs and what Bradley has done. Zambrano atleast wins games while Bradley strikes or pops out in every single at-bat.

Zambrano is no leader.

Z came up through the Cubs organization and is a part of the Cubs family. He is given more lea way than any other person. Sosa was given some of this as well. The Cubs and the fans have a history of looking past certian things as long they produce and have loyalty (like anywhere else I suppose). Regardless, the signing of Bradley and the presence of Lou produced a steady tick..tick...tick as the countdown to meltdown began.

Milton really has is a bad temper. It is inherent to his genetics and it is sad, but that is the way this boy is and he cannot help it. We can help him though and the Cubs need to sit him like a little boy and make him think about who he really is - in this life.

What a hypocrite Piniella is. Dempster attacks a water cooler, no public reprimand. Zambrano attacks a teammate and several clubhouse items. no public reprimand from the team. Bradley attacks a clubhouse item so Lou takes out his frustrations from their recent slump and sends Bradley home. It's not as if Piniella did not do that kind of thing throughout his playing career. It's the pot calling the kettle black. Soriano with his lousy fielding and base running gaffes is hitting 10 points below Bradley and Lou still keeps marching him out there as the leadoff man. Lou has to be going senile.

Inherent in his genetics? You mean his inner-city genetics? How funny. I'd be happy if he could just hit .280

Then why did Hendry sign him for $30 million over 3 years? At least Bradley is hitting 10 points better than that has-been Soriano.

You have to think though, kids look up to these guys as role models; what to do, say, wear, etc. If my boy ever acted like that, i would jerk a knot in his tail!!!

June 27, 2009  12:15 PM ET

Think about it this way; kids grow up watching these grown men play a GAME. They look up to them as role models; what to do, say, what clothing to wear, etc... They are playing a frikin' game for crying out loud. Your right about Piniella though. He's done almost everything you can imagine out there. All I know is, if my son acts like that I'll jerk a knot in his tail!!!

What do you care if Bradley gets a raw deal? Is it that hard to figure out for you? It is Bradley's bad attitude on a daily basis that has brought all this about. You're going to compare Dempster and Zambrano(who are mostly producers) to the likes of Bradley? And at least Soriano is always positive and keeps everyone loose and has a much larger upside.
