Indians GM: Wedge not on hot seat

With vultures and gulls hovering over his manager, Indians General Manager Mark Shapiro again Friday said Eric Wedge should not be singled out for the club's failures. The Tribe entered a game against the Reds at 30-44, last in the American League Central. Asked if Wedge was on the hot seat, Shapiro said: "I don't know what that means -- on the hot seat. No. In this business, every single one of us has a sense of urgency to our jobs and a real sense of accountability. We all go through junctures when we're evaluated. To me, now is not one of those junctures [for Wedge].

To say Wedge is not responsible is MOST IRRESPONSIBLE on Shapiro's part. It's like saying a manager is never responsible for wins & losses. Then why have a manager? Look at Toronto last year and into this year as a clear indication that a change of managers oftentimes works. Or more recently Colorado.

Did he really say that? Does he know what "your team sucks" means? Or how about "there are a lot of teams with lesser talent beating the snot out of your team." What happened to you, Mark?
