Warriors won't swap Curry for Amare

If the Suns make an Amare Stoudemire trade with Golden State, they apparently won't be getting Davidson point guard Stephen Curry in the exchange. League sources said Golden State is unwilling to part with Curry, who the Warriors did not expect to be available with their seventh overall pick in Thursday's draft. The Suns and Warriors were prepared to make a deal that would have sent Stoudemire to Golden State for the No. 7 pick, center Andris Biedrins, forward Brandan Wright and guard Marco Belinelli until Curry became available at No. 7. Curry was atop a list of Suns choices that had been given to the Warriors, who valued Curry as much as any draftee beyond top pick Blake Griffin of Oklahoma.

If I was the Suns, I'd say No Curry, No Deal.

Without Curry its still a fair deal that tends to favor Phoenix more.... Amare is great but we all know about his knee issue and lack of defense. But I don't understand why Golden State wants to keep Curry as they already have Morrow and Monta Ellis. Oh well its the mad man show!

Don Nelson never follows conventional thinking when it comes to player selection... scary thing is he might make it work to his advantage...

While I do believe GS would improve a lot with Amare, they wont be contenders. They would battle to be an 8th playoff seed with DAL-CLI-OKL-PHO(ironically). This move will have a bigger impact on Amare than that of GS. Thus I still like the HOU propposal as a more flexible option for PHO, even do the GS option would give them half a team. Also, Amares impact on HOU would be collosal.

On the other hand, GS should explore a possible trade with DET for Rip & Tay, 2 guys who can score and defend at the same time ... maybe ...

- Prince & Rip & Sharpe (DET) for Biedrins & Maggette & Wright & Bellinelly (GS)
This would allow DET to defenitively change its direction. To have the flexibility to sign Gordon and a PF (Boozer or Millsap or Lee) and become a serious competitive team.
GS obtains two balanced (Off & Def) players that fit well into their small ball system. They also obtain a great cap flexibility on for the years ahead as the received contracts end way before the departed ones.

Possible DET lineup
Stuckey
Gordon
Mcggette
Boozer or Lee or Millsapp
Biedrins
Wright
Maxiell
Bellinelly
Affalo

Possible GS lineup
Ellis
Rip
Tay
Jefferson
Randolph or Turiaf
Curry
Davidson
Azubukie
Morrow
Sharpe

warriors with amare still will not make the playoffs. they need the dream team!!!!!

How about Phoenix blows up their whole roster in this trade:
Steve Nash and Amare Stoudemire for Joe Johnson, Josh Smith, Maurice Evans, Randolph Morris, and a future 1st Round pick.

Nah....nevermind.

This deal favors Phoenix. Without Biedrins, Golden State goes back to the same problem they've had forever--no man in the middle. Stoudemire is actually the reason for all the changes being made because he is of little effect down low with his back to the basket. Few people will accept the fact that Shaq was the reason Amare's numbers increased. Stoudemire will now have to go back to playing outside his comfort zone, where he is less effective.

If Amare stays in PHO, then yes, he would have to play out of confort.

But in GS he would once again have a superstar season (if healthy) as they play his style. They dont play a half court or a slow pace offense wich has been the cause of Biedrins only getting around 10 pts.

While PHO & GS systems are seemingly alike, they have subtle differences as Nelson does not even consider to play a halfcourt offense. He doesnt care to have a big man in the middle, he doesnt need (within his system) a true C. He has a small ball system. Gentry, on the other hand, has a variation of DAntony wich relies on having someone to grab boards and dedend the pick & rolls.

That said, Biedrins number will increase even in PHO uptempo style.

I still don't get the Curry fascination....
and for hiim to be the 'deal breaker' is kind of ridiculous when they
ALREADY have a similar player- who'se actually NBA PROVEN

Could not agree more. Shaq facilitated attention away from Amare, and actually created room for him to play his way by drawing defenders. On top of that, without Nash, Amare won't be the same player - without someone getting him the ball exactly where he is accustomed to (no easy feat, regardless of how skilled a point is, as this comes with experience playing together), he won't be nearly as effective. Amare better pray that he ends up playing with Nash this year, or he'll be exposed even more than he already has been.

That being said, Golden State is nuts not to include Curry - but he's not going to be a superstar in the league - he's not a point - he'll get picked apart by quicker players; and he's a short shooting guard who will have a tougher time creating space to get his shot off against taller defenders. While I have my criticisms of Amare, the players being talked about are at best equal including Curry (as long as Amare signs long term).

Yes. It does! And that reason is a major one, I hope GS doesn't do this deal for their own sake.

CURRY IS NOTHING MORE THEN HYPE JUST LIKE ALL THE OTHER WARRIOR DRAFT PICKS
THEY NEED TO TRADE HIM FOR SOME QUALITY SET PLAYERS AND LET THIS GUY GO BEFORE ANYONE SEE'S HIM GET STOMPED ON BY THE NBA.... AND NELSON DOESNT PLAY ROOKIES SO WHATS THE USE WITH CURRY.... JUST ANOTHER FLAT LINER PRESS HYPED PLAYER

Magic to pursue Wallace, Bass

FanHouse.com reports the Orlando Magic are expected to make contract offers next week to Rasheed Wallace (Detroit) and Brandon Bass (Dallas).
If the Magic can sign a power forward the team, according to the Orlando Sentinel, will move Rashard Lewis back to small forward, play Vince Carter at shooting guard and bring Mickael Pietrus off the bench as the sixth-man.

Detroit free agent Antonio McDyess could also be a target of the Magic.

anyone notice that the suns have been eager to trade stoudamire for awhile now? if i'm GS i think i'd rather hang on to curry. stoudamire is known quantity, big numbers, questionable ability to be the man for a contender.

curry may or may not make it in the nba, but if he doesn't it won't be because he lacks the head or the heart. we saw that in the ncaa tourney.

June 27, 2009  01:25 PM ET

GS will rue the day they didn't pull the trigger on this one. Curry will be the next Jamal Crawford, not the next Chris Paul.

then youre not paying attention. ellis can score, but curry can shoot. he has a pure stroke. very few people have that talent. its a wanted commodity in the nba. you have to guard him for a full 48 minutes. slack up for just a minute and a half and he may score 12 points, easy points, the kind that take the pressure off of a long, hard regular season.

also like his dad del, curry will be able to come off the bench and electrify his team with instant offense and allow better defenders to be substituted into the game because he will take care of the offense.

an nba team is like a puzzle, and some pieces are harder to find and are more valuable than others. currys natural ability to stroke the ball and his maturity will allow whoever is coaching him, some luxuries of configuring their line-ups that other coaches wont have. the ability to create match-up problems is key, and curry will allow his coaches to create these situations, even if curry isnt the one scoring at any particular moment.

curry is also a team player and very mature. not sure you can say that about ellis.

ellis broke his contract (and his ankle) by riding a moped, lied about what happened, moped around when they disciplined him and now hes whinning to get away from a team that made him a multi-millionaire. i guess you can say hes nba proven.

i dont think you will see any of those problems from curry. he is a class act.

i live near charlotte and went to many hornet games and saw del curry light it up. stephen has just as good of a stroke, but is a much more complete player.

this kid will have a long, productive and profitable nba career, guaranteed.

Amare is a very good PF top 10 in the league but Golden St is giving away too much in return...if they are smart they will pass on this trade scenario...

If I were the Warriors, I would say, take it or leave it. If Amare stays with Phoenix, he'll walk after a year. Not much negotiation leverage for the Suns. But they can get decent players nevertheless.
