09:09 AM ET 06.27 | Former Duke basketball player Elliot Williams says he's considering a transfer to Memphis, Tennessee, Vanderbilt and Kentucky. Williams, a rising sophomore guard, was granted his release Wednesday from Duke. He told The Commercial Appeal on Thursday that, because of his mother's illness, he is seeking a waiver of the NCAA rule forcing student-athletes to sit out a year after transferring.

He probably wants more playing time. It might be cool to say you play ball at Duke, but if you don't get to much floor time..........

Just sayin' (I am a Tarheel, though)

Why is there a pic of Teflon John on this thread? Isn't it a Duke story.

At least all his schools are in close proximity. So we can't call BS on this one. Good luck to him and his Mother.

He's going to Memphis...the other places won't be approved by the NCAA...

Have you seen the Nike commercial where they show a clip of Teflon John roaming the Kentucky sideline during a bball game? He's never coached at Kentucky, yet we have footage? I'll bet they spent mucho dinero to computer-generate that wet dream!

I have not but nothing NIKE does surprises me. They probably turned a profit in the first week.

His home area.

He should have to sit out. Cal has probably already paid all his mom's medical bills, and his scholarship so sure why not make headlines and join Wall in UK.

Kid should be forced to miss 1 year...it's a college RULE. Cut the BS about the mom, if she's so sick, take the year off from bball...oh thats right you cant do that b/c she need's you to play right? Explain that one.

Face it Elliot your a bum, who got some minutes at the end of the year last year but wasnt enough to fulfil your selfish need's....sit out, see you in 2 years. (ask R. Marve)

Lexington is over a 6 hour drive from Memphis, so I cannot really call that close proximity. If you really want to be closer to home then go to Memphis, if its just to get more PT, sit out like everyone else.

Cal is currently working on a deal which would feature his mug on all upcoming TnR stories about College BBall, whether or not they involve UK or Memphis.

Wow a little harsh aren't we? And I am sure his Mom does want her son to play because obviously playing basketball is a dream and passion of his and why would she want for him to lose the scholarship for college he has earned and worked for because of her. I think for the NCAA to deny him or any other kid in that kind of situation is a complete disgrace. Plus I have never heard anything about Elliot Williams acting like Marve did, so that comparison is a little off.

So a 6 hour drive is approximately a 1 hour flight. I would call that close proximity. At least he isn't talking about going to one of the coasts. That would force the BS call.

It would be nice if he went to Tennessee, but there are no scholarships left for him next season. I guess that means the Vols' best chance is if he loses the appeal.
