Mourning joining Heat's front-office
Three months after having his jersey raised to the AmericanAirlines Arena rafters during a retirement ceremony, center Alonzo Mourning will soon bring his game back to the Miami Heat. The team is finalizing a deal to hire Mourning to work with the team in a player development role that also will allow him to serve as a mentor both on and off the court.

Working with the players- is fine....he's got plenty of experience
but it's kind of ridiculous if he gets more of a management role
what exactly are his (or any players) qualifications ?

Suppose he is a decent role model.

He might be a decent member of the coaching staff.* He obviously knew how to play the game, but the key to being a coach is how effective you are at getting your ideas across to your players.
*This includes developing player skills.
I think he will be a coach within the next few years.

All he had to do was slam Phil coaching style and now look at him...

If you listen to him talk he's always stressing fundamentals and defense. He also speaks often about the discipline and character needed in order to succeed in the NBA. These kids come to the NBA after a couple of semesters of college and they don't have a clue about the off-court time they'll be spending in meetings and film sessions, and they're not really prepared to make an instant transition to an adult lifestyle in the media spotlight. I think it's a smart move by Miami to put someone of Alonzo's character in this kind of role. I have a lot of respect for the man and I think it's a great move.

Lets hope Wade gets thew players around him that he needs.
The west looks like they made all the thriller trades.
The only 2 teams that made good trades in the East were Cavs and Magic.
We need Bosh & a Channy Frye type backup power foward since Beasley is now a legit sf!

From a fan's perspective, I'm just happy I don't have to listen to any more of his 'analysis' on NBA TV. Now if only someone would take the mic away from Cheryl Miller.

Mourning will always be remembered as just another spoiled athlete who feels he deserves everything and anything. Remember how he quit on the Nets and refused to report to Toronto, forcing a trade? http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2005/writers/ian_thomsen/12/14/artest.mou rning/
Mourning should be banned from the league.

Alonzo is a classy man, and I had the honor of meeting him when he was awarded at the San Jose Children's Museum. He was very polite to me, and even answered questions 1 on 1. A great guy for the team, as he will help the younger people along.

I believe Pat Riley did that to spite the Knicks for still keeping Ewing in Orlando. But now that we got some big men in Darko, Curry & Hill... it'll be a prudent idea to add Ewing to the Knicks coaching staff. He can learn how to coach great offense from Mike D'Antoni to go along with the defensive discipline from Jeff Van Gundy and neither offensive or defensive coaching from Stan Van Gundy.

Seems like you're the only one that remembers him that way. I'm gonna go with "who cares". I'd rather spend time with him, than you.
