09:46 AM ET 06.27 | Is Vincent Lecavalier finally going to get to come home? While Lightning GM Brian Lawton told reporters yesterday that he hasn't received any calls about the all-star centre's availability, the chatter has shifted into high gear that the Canadiens are finally going to acquire Lecavalier before July 1. The problem is the Habs don't have much to offer. Sources say they could send G Jaroslav Halak and C Christopher Higgins, who is a pending RFA, to the Bolts as part of a package. Lecavalier is scheduled to make an average of $7.27 million for the next 11 years.

Why oh why does FN use a Toronto Sun for a Montreal story? Have you guys ever heard of the Montreal Gazette? Michael Farber used to work there before he joined SI. Pretty good paper. And it says in there that Gainey won't rush things. He has a lot to do and the new owners may want to have a say in a decision like this one.

On TSN yesterday, Burke was micced and he said to Gainey, "The rumor going around is you guys or the Islanders are going to get Lecavalier." Gainey just said "OK" and walked a away.

I would love to have this guy on our team. Flyers cap went to hell when they traded for Pronger though

June 27, 2009  12:32 PM ET

Wow, I'm shocked that the mental Lightning owners might have to sell. Perhaps it's because they don't know anything.

I don't see why Lecavalier would want to play in Montreal. The pressure on him would be enormous and I don't think he can handle that.

How can they say that the Canadiens will acquire leclavier will be acquired before July 1st when they have nothing good to offer in the same paragraph?

Gainey doesn't want Lecavalier at this point ... I think he going to make a play for the Sedins on July 1st. He wouldn't talk to Burke cause he knows they are both going to make a play for the twins.

Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal and another unknown team are all in play for the Sedins.

I seriously doubt the Habs have enough on their roster to pay the price for a dominating player like Vinny or they'll have the screw themselves for years to come on the first round draft...

June 27, 2009  05:28 PM ET

Every year our heads get crammed full of hearsay and speculation about free-agents that may or may not be coming to Montreal. If Vinny comes the Habs will be a new look team, many others will be gone and they will have to rebuild around Vinny to even be considered a contender. Don't hold your breetha though. Remember Sundin? What a bad move that was by van city. Get excited about Louis Leblanc and Alexander Avitsin at least we know they are in the fold.

June 27, 2009  05:30 PM ET

don't hold your breath. Remember the Sundin quagmire? Vinny coming will require a complete overhaul, many regulars will get thier walking papers. Which may not be the worst thing but the Habs will have to rebuild (a word we all resent hearing) around Lecavalier. I am more excited about seeing Louis Leblanc lace up for his home town fans.

Vinny and St. Louis for Heatley and Spezza.

June 27, 2009  07:26 PM ET

If it's true that they're trying sell, this ain't gonna happen - unless it involves a huge amount of cash - they'd have to knock 25-30 million from the sale price, sans le coq au Vin-nie - maybe even fifty. Moan-ray-all got that kinda Kischka - does anybody?

No, he would not talk with Burke because like many others, he hates him!

Yay a whole summer of this!

Why would people in toronto listen to their own sports teams? that would be just stupid, i mean, who wants to talk about the leafs?

June 28, 2009  12:24 AM ET

Maple Leafs? Yes by all means, let's chat about the Leafs.

Agreed. Look at what my Flyers just gave up for Pronger.

June 28, 2009  01:45 AM ET

He's coming to Montreal before next season. It's his destiny. God sent these two clowns to own the team with the inevitable conclusion: Vinny coming to play for the Habs.

As for the Pronger trade, the Flyers slightly overpaid but are going to be a better team next season for sure. In three years, i don't think so.

June 28, 2009  02:03 AM ET

do the twins actually have to come in a package. what if you want one twin as a free agent and the other one reports instead as a joke, what the hell, you know what i mean.

June 28, 2009  03:46 AM ET

Wow cant believe this is an actual story. Lightning will not trade him. I am Bolts fan and if they trade this player might as well pack the franchise and move it somewhere else.
