The best high school linebacker prospect in Ohio was surrounded by hundreds of peers Friday at Ohio State. Jordan Hicks wasn't taking part in the Buckeyes' one-day camp for advanced prospects, but he was still getting some of the greatest attention. Having narrowed his college choices to Ohio State, Florida, USC, Texas, Georgia and Alabama, the 220-pounder from Lakota West High School near Dayton is looking for a comfortable fit, and he spent his day getting more comfortable with the Buckeyes.

It'll be either tosu, tx or fla.

Hard to imagine those three programs competing for you. Kid must be one hell of a talent.

Definitely no slouches on his list. Must be a stud. Maybe we need to bombard him with pictures of the Song Girls. Not to mention what our LB's have done over the past 4 years.

#16 nationally, #1 at his position. Loves UT and mom would move to Austin if he goes there. tOSU in the backyard so tons of pressure. Norton at USC is working him hard but supposedly Fla has the edge due to their success. Rumor is it comes down to TX, tOSU and Fla. but he is still going to take his 5 officials in the next few months. Whoever falls off the list of six at that time is probably in trouble.

USC's in it and Norton is putting the press on him. Plus they tend to finish well so no one is out of it yet. He will visit the left coast soon.

Saban is a great recruiter but might not be able pull to this one off.

This is where tOSU uses their elite LB's from recent past to help close the deal. A. J. Hawk, Bobby Carpenter, James Laurinaitis et al should be working for Jim on this one.

June 27, 2009  01:58 PM ET

I think he should look at Tenn, build the D-fense around him

Maybe if he wants to get drafted but not if he wants a career in the NFL.

Ken Norton will have a lot to say about that also.

the 220-pounder from Lakota West High School near Dayton? Last time I checked Lakota West was in the city of West Chester, which is a suburb of Cincinnati!

'hundreds of peers" ... meaning they were *all* "best linebacker prospect in Ohio"? How interesting. Is journalism the place for bad writers who can't get into law school?

And he wasn't participating? Then, what was he doing? Posing for pictures? No, really. This is the big news at tOSU - that a guy they're recruiting passed through town about the same time as hundreds of peer "advanced prospects" were showing their wares?

"looking for a comfortable fit" and "spent his day getting more comfortable with the Buckeyes"? This is a linebacker FROM Ohio. He chafes around Buckeyes? Needs getting comfortable around them?

This is like the Governor of SC of news stories. Will he stay with his sweetheart or run into the arms of Satan? Will the Song Girls of SC lure him into the rocks of Santa Catalina? What about the riches spawned from the Urbanite mines of HoggeTowne? Which quest will he undertake? Why, whichever one makes him comfortable...

Are you kidding... who, Tatupu? That's it.... last years top 25 linebackers list had two Buckeyes.

June 28, 2009  02:21 AM ET

Once he gets a look at my avatar, he'll sign with OSU for sure! Best fans in the land!

let's clarify. First, I am neither a tOSU or USC fan but they have fine college programs.

I guess you put Tatupu given the reference to Norton. You are correct, USC has Tatupu as an LB in the league. Quite frankly USC does a great job of getting guys drafted but their bust rate is quite high and in general over the last decade less than 1/2 their guys stuck in the NFL. My comment was simple. If I am a 17 year old kid, a LB no less, and I am being recruited by USC and Ken Norton, I pay attention and maybe even sport wood. Nortons no slouch and has 3 SB rings he can show the kid. thats enough to get anyone that age excited about going to USC. That's all I am saying. Oh, and then there's the song girls.

However, OSU's track record for stud NFL LB's is just as dismal. (Carpenter, Hawk, Katzenmoyer and co.) Yes, they have some highly decorated College LB's but once they go to the next level.....ppppfffffftttttt. Not a whole lot. So, if they want to get drafted by the NFL tOSU is a good place to go. But....

and what list are your referring to exactly.

Don't forget Vrabel's got a couple of rings as well.

Vrabels a find LB but no one thinks of him when they think tOSU football except maybe fans of the school. Everyone knows Norton because of his name.

The real distinction and only point I was making is that Norton works for USC, is the LB coach, is recruiting the kid, will be coaching him and he has the rings and background. That's starry eyed stuff. Plus USC closes recruits in Dec-Feb like no other school.

In the end I think he goes in state because it is in state, they have a rep for LB's, Tx can't close late recruiting OOS players, Fl is stocked with talent and USC doesn't appeal to him for a myriad of reasons. But he will go to USC in the Fall and that could change.

......as would Mr. Nortons fellow draft mate from tOSU and 4-time ProBowler Chris Spielman.

June 29, 2009  01:07 AM ET

People now think of USC when they think of Norton because he works there. A.J. Hawk a bust already!? REALLY???? Isnt that a little too soon to call? And who includes Katzenmoyer on a list of busts??? The kid had a career ending injury before his career even began, while we are at it lets just rub some salt in his wound

Didn't USC have EVERY starter that came out last season drafted? Most of the them before the 3rd round. I think 100% is a winning bet.

Last years linebacker list? Again USC had three Linebackers go in the top 40 (2 in the 1st round), and Ohio St. had one (in the 2nd round). It's not even close.
