Shaq nixed trade to Blazers
Amid a wealth of midseason rumors that he was headed to Cleveland in February at the trading deadline, Shaquille O'Neal says another team also was trying to land him -- the Portland Trail Blazers. O'Neal says he vetoed the potential trade to Portland in a conversation with Suns GM Steve Kerr, who this week dealt Shaq to the Cavaliers in exchange for Ben Wallace, Sasha Pavlovic, a second-round pick in next year's draft and $500,000. "During the middle of the season, Steve said Portland was interested," said O'Neal. "He said was I interested in going to Portland? I told him no, so he stopped that." The Blazers, however, are adamant that they didn't try to trade for Shaq in February. "Why would we when we've got Greg (Oden) developing and we've already got (Joel) Przybilla?" said a Blazers official who asked to remain anonymous. "If were in go-for-it mode, maybe we would be more interested."

Not sure why Shaq would lie about it, but that trade wouldn't have made any sense for Portland to do.

Steve Kerr may have cooked up a story to convince Shaq that he's still needed by teams LOL. Or kerr could have staged a call from his friends in POR just to keep Shaq guessing a bit.
Shaq to POR obviously makes zero sense from either parties perspective.

Shaq is a train wreck waiting to happen. I hope for Clevelands sake they do not give this guy a long term deal. EVERY contract year he spends his summers in the gym...guess what? he been in the gym & lost 20 lbs so far.

CLE shouldnt content with Sahqs move, they should try this 4 step plan, to become instant champs:
1. Resign Varejao (less than 7.5 M)
2. Trade Gibson for a SG or a SF (f.e. Stevenson of WAS or Barmes of PHO, who will be resigned)
go radical and ...
3. Trade Ilgauskas & Hickson for Hamilton (DET)
DET would sign Gordon and Rip will not play off the bench. They would receive a true C and a promising PF. Both good assets if you pair them with either Lee, Boozer or Millsap, wich are the other Free agents they are after. And the main attraction, is Ilg expiring contract for next year wich comes in handy for further trades or for the 2010 free agency.
CLE would get the consistent scorer (behind Lebron) that has been lacking since ... ever.
4. To offer its mid level exception to: Gortat (ORL) or Villanueva (MIL) or Bass (DAL)

And he's boasting about Pryzbilla too. That's even worse than Portland's, "We've got Drexler, so we'll pass on Jordan".

Even do his mouth is as big as his oncourt legacy, that and his marketability (yes at his actual age), makes him one of the most dessireble players for any GM.
Remember that as far as problems with partners, he just had them with Kobe (yes Nash didnt like their playstyle when both were on court, only, not his way of being).
And among the superstars (best 3 of each position, being Shaq in there), Kobe may be the alex Rodriguez of the NBA. The best but one of the most unwanted by other players in the league.
* The apparent Kobe attack, it is just a coincidence ... I like LA, specially last year.

they most likely tried 2 trade him. "Why would we when we've got Greg (Oden) developing and we've already got (Joel) Przybilla?" said a Blazers official who asked to remain anonymous. lol i c y he wanted 2 remain anonymous, with a dumb statement like that

Don't know that Shaq would have been able to somehow keep Steve Blake in front of Aaron Brooks so it's a moot point, really.

first of all ONLY Kobe has a no-trade clause
Secondly- this is Shaq telling a story....
you really think if Kerr said this to him mid season- it would've
only come out NOW ?

Very, very bold "plan" to success. Gibson won't draw any half-decent player in a trade, and his salary only matches up with Stevenson (Stevenson: 3.6 million; Gibson: 3.7 million; Barnes 1.7 million) for a trade.
Ilgauskas, furthermore, doesn't have ANY trade value because of his durability concerns, plus Big Z makes more than Rip with the same contract length (including Z's player option). If Detroit really needs a center they could mid-level a Center and sign-and-trade for Gordon, if necessary. Your ambitious "plans" to a championship may work in NBA2k9 but not in reality. Even to assume the mid-level exception plan is a little ridiculous (at least for Villanueva's part). If you want your team to have Gortat take him. He may be a 7-footer but he's pretty soft and not polished offensively. He just owned the Cavs because Z is soft(er) and "Carrot Top" Varejao wasted too many minutes and too much effort riding the bench in foul trouble and complaining to the referees.

YOu and me both. "Why would we want Shaq unless we were in a win now mode" WTF????? Dont they want to win?????? Come one how can you say you have Oden and Pryzbilla when you have a chance to get Shaq.
I do not think that Shaq is lying here. I really do believe that Portland was trying to get him. Would be interesting what Blazers were offering for Shaq?

Cant the Cleveland fans dream???? While you at it get Bosh and Wade. Beg Kobe to sign for vets minimum (he qualifies) when he opt out with Lakers.
Not a bad team if you ask me.
LBJ, KOBE, WADE, BOSH, SHAQ, but they will still find a way to lose to Orlando or Celtics. Remember this is Cleveland we are taking about. LMAO
