Knicks unlikely to get Rubio
Knicks President Donnie Walsh has indicated that he hopes to be able to re-sign both David Lee and Nate Robinson, but that is highly unlikely. What also appears unlikely is that either will be involved in a potential trade for Timberwolves draft pick Ricky Rubio, despite some apparently baseless reports out of Spain. The Knicks' interest in the Spanish guard is not great enough to take back a contract, which is the only way a deal would work that would involve Lee or Robinson.

I don't see how they could get Rubio without getting a third team involved. Who on the Knicks would Minnesota want?

If NY can swing a sign and trade for Lee, I would give up Rubio (if I were MN). I'm sure other players would need to be involved for numbers to match, but MN should be lucky enough if they can land Lee. They already have their PG in Flynn. Besides, Rubio doesn't want to play for MN, so why would they want a malcontent on their team?
Not a big Nate fan, but if MN land him too somehow, it wouldn't be too bad scoring wise. I don't like nate's antics, but no one can question his heart to score.

Drafted players should not be allowed to hold their teams up because they don't want to play there. The whole idea is that the worst teams get the best players.
There will be a deal worked out, he wants to play in NBA this year not in Spain. I hope Minnesota holds fast and gets a good deal for him.

This is an interesting scenario. With Telfair looking like a decent PG finally, something definately has to give. I say hold on to both picks and let them play it out. At least wait till the Rubio buyout has been negotiated. Unlike many on this forum, I think he's a player. I also definately think that Jonny Flynn is a player too (a lot less risk).

The Knicks don't know how lucky they are. The last thing they need is another bust at the point. The best player for the system D'Antoni is trying to play would have been Ty Lawson, or perhaps Jonny Flynn. Somebody needs to inform Rubio that he can't just declare for the draft, and go wherever he wants. If he doesn't like the winters in Minnesota, there's always Spain.

Rubio is just another bum **** player people are hyping up to be someone he's not gonna be anyhow! Minnesota shouldn't have even selected him in the first place. He had already told reporters he didn't wanna go there! Who cares if his mom didn't want to be in Minnesota, her **** isn't the one playing, he is! I wouldn't cowtow to his demands or wishes. If he doesn't wanna play let him take his soft butt back to Spain and play with the other softies!! The league really doesn't need you!!

Let him play in Spain another year or 2. He will be eaten alive if he played for the Wolves next year. Wolves are going to be one of the worst teams in the league with or without Rubio next year so the Wolves can be patient and let him develop in Spain.

The Timberwolves have the talent to go for 30-40 wins, easily. If they can get a decent coach.
If they got Mchale back to coach, they would do well. While most people bash Mchale for all aspects of his tenure in the Timberwolves front office, people don't understand that he's a pretty good coach. He's a better coach than GM.

I hope the Knicks go after him so they can get another overrated, future bust, garbage player. My message to the Knicks is just keeping dreaming you'll become relevant again and get LeBron because it's not going to happen!

I'm sick of hearing about Fegan jerking GMs around by the short hairs. The NBA should stop doing business with that ****. It's not like he represents the most powerful clientele.

The Knicks have nothing of value except more draft picks!! David Lee could have been had by Minnesota if the Wolves would have drafted Rubio and then Curry, traded Curry to the Knicks for Lee and the 8th pick and then gotten Flynn. As far as Rubio goes he needs to suck it up and play some basketball. Otherwise the Wolves should trade Rubio to the Celtics for Rajon Rondo....they owe the T-Wolves for giving them that championship!!!

How can they POSSIBLY sign Lee AND nate AND still be
aiming for a big player in 2010 ?
How Donnie.... ?

Why ? that's business....
He HAS a contract that he is getting paid in Spain-
He ABSOLUTELY can decline to sign an NBA offer
ESPECIALLY if his 6mil buyout means he would be earning
LESS than what he would make playing in Spain.....
He's also OBVIOUSLY not ready-
The SMART move would be to play in spain for 2 more
years....wait til his buyout is over (2011) and then come over
as a more experienced TWENTY year old.
It's TOTALLY a smart move to stay there
And Minny is STUPID for drafting him when they KNEW THIS

So Rudio wants to be a knicker bocker rather than a T'Wolve or he will remain in Europe.
Hmmm I cant blame the kid and if infact in Europe there are more euro bills then do what keeps you paid in full kid.

I don't really think he is worth all the trouble that some of these teams are willing to go through, I would rather have Johnny Flynn anyway

I know. I just dont like when these players who haven't even played yet hold these teams hostage.

Too bad. The kid wants to play in the greatest city in the world, but it doesn't look like its in the cards. If I were in his position I would stay in Spain rather than be sentenced to playing and living in Minnesota.
