Dallas Maverick Brandon Bass is going to have suitors, including perhaps Orlando, which is eager to add big bodies after acquiring Vince Carter. The Magic may also go after Rasheed Wallace in free agency, according to some reports.

Why would they want a petulant, whining, over-sized 2-guard?

June 28, 2009  09:45 AM ET

I don't like the Brandon Bass move...he is more suited coming off the bench. McDyess or Rasheed Wallace would be good fits in Orlando.

Rasheed on Orlando would be a terrific fit. Could help put them over the top next year.

I LOVE the Bass move. They are oviously looking for a big body to come off the bench anyway. Where is the room in the starting lineup??

However talented Rasheed is, he is a malcontent. Can be a nuisance and a distraction. Bass would be perfect. Imagine defensive stoppers in Bass and Petrius coming off the bench, with all their 3-point shooters doing the offense.
I like ORL even after the CLE trade for Shaq.

Because he has height and can shoot lights out, thats why! People in basketball circles know his value and what he can bring to a team.

Bass would be a nice pickup for the Magic. This would move Rashard Lewis to the 3, and Carter to the 2. Smart money says Bass however will remain in Dallas.

I know they brought in Vince Carter but I really think that they'll miss Hedo is he's let go. While very inconsistent, he had the ball in his hand very every meaningful possession in the playoffs (not Rafer or Jameer). Vince still has game but I think Hedo gives them more.

June 28, 2009  11:15 AM ET

In other news, Hedo opted out the day after they announced the Carter trade.

I thought after this trade that adds 3yrs of $52M to their payroll that Orlando is unlikely to offer Hedo as much as other teams. However I do like Bass in Orlando who is post power player with a decent shot and athleticism, a major need & upgrade over Battie. What about Gortat? To me, they still don't have a starting SF for their team. I would be addressing that before anything else these days. Hedo really wasn't Adonal the last two seasons if you know what I mean.

This should have been the guy Cleveland needs. Not Shaq. Inspite of his personality, he can open the middle with his outside shooting. Shaq would only clog the lanes for Lebron to drive through.

Do they have enough weed for Rashweed in Orlando?

June 28, 2009  11:51 AM ET

Rasheed has probably still got a little left in the tank, but he is no longer a 'go to' guy. He could however be an asset to a team for 15-18 minutes in a backup role. Boston comes to mind. Orlando has enough jumpshooters already.

June 28, 2009  11:54 AM ET

Bass would be a excellent big man off the bench..Sheed on the other hand is done...

June 28, 2009  11:55 AM ET

I wonder, since they are now firmly in the luxury tax for years to come, if they will sign one of these guys when decision time comes. It means paying double, 5.5mil to the player, 5.5mil to the tax. They are not a team with a history of being in the tax like DAL, NY, CLE, etc . . , They have basically traded Lee, Alston and any hope of resigning Hedo for Carter, at this point might as well do it. Not convinced the Carter trade was smart, probably could have resigned a younger Hedo for cheaper per year although for more years and Hedo is a known quanity to them.

What is this Panic buying by the Magic?! they may get all the new players that may help them, but it may also end up as a chemistry problem..by getting lots of Pieces for a championship run, they may end up taking longer to win a title cause of the influx of new players..

They should do what the Lakers did last year no matter if they took a beating the Last game in the finals against boston..they didnt re-build the team, they stayed patient..the result was better team chemistry for the Lakers which got them the title this year..

they should have learned from the Nelson experiment in the finals, no matter how you look at it team chemistry was affected..resulting in poor play by the backcourt..

June 28, 2009  01:17 PM ET

Doesn't this team have enough 3-point over-shooters? Go for Bass.

June 28, 2009  01:29 PM ET

Bass it is just 6??6 PF with muscles, so he might not be tall but he plays though and with heart, He also happens to be a very balanced player (Off & Def) and paired within a lineup of Dwight & Lewis, his size wont mather ... (f.e. the same case could be argued if he joins CLE).

June 28, 2009  01:41 PM ET

Don't count out the Spurs wanting Bass either.

Nice !, but I would rather go after Gooden, again ...

June 28, 2009  02:07 PM ET

Orlando seems confident that they can surround Howard with pretty much anyone and still be a contender. They might be underestimating the value of clearly defined roles and chemistry.

we need someone like drew gooden he is tough, a rebounder, has a decent post game, jump shot, and he is not that expensive
