Knicks, Lakers, Celtics to woo Kidd

There will be a new bad guy to deal with when the Mavericks open their pursuit of re-signing Jason Kidd on Wednesday. The New York Knicks are expected to join the ranks of serious competitors for Kidd's services for two reasons. First, it is widely known that Kidd has an affinity for New York. He still has a home there and enjoys the area. He played for New Jersey for 6 1/2 seasons before being traded to Dallas in 2008. Secondly, the Knicks are going to start stockpiling assets to help lure LeBron James next summer. Having Kidd as their point guard, even at age 37 in 2010, would be a nice selling point. Wednesday is when teams officially can begin talking to free agents, and Kidd is expected to get overtures from several teams: Cleveland, Portland, Boston, New York and perhaps the Lakers.

Dallas can offer as much as 8 million per season. New York can only offer a mid-level exception (5-6 million).

I thought the Knicks were trying to save all their capspace to sign 2 big FA in 2010. Signing a washed up Kidd isn't going to help with this or make the Knicks a better team than the Cavs. it's not like Kidd is going to turn down millions and sign for the minimum.

I've long been a Jason Kidd fan, but his latest stint in Dallas really exposed how much his game has declined. Still, him running D'Antoni's offense would be fun to watch.

If Kidd is available at 3-4M max per, then I would invest on him. Otherwise its not money well spent, at this time of his career. He still had good numbers last season, but any more money would mean building a team around him, which is not possible.
If Celts can get him , in Starbury's place, that would make East interesting since CLE and ORL have already made their moves.
I'm sooo excited already for the next season!!!!!!

that is good analysis right there. I think though Cuban will offer the most because he needs him the most. It would be foolish for NY to sign him and I don't think Kidd would go there for a) less money and b) a worse team. The Lebron talk is just talk. chances are maybe 10% on the high end he winds up a Knick. Kidd has to know that or be hearing that from sober voices.

the Knicks are going to start stockpiling assets to help lure LeBron James next summer.

Since when is a 37 year old point guard with no shot, and a defensive liability, considered to be an asset. Yesterday Kidd wanted the opportunity to win a championship. Maybe he hasn't seen the Knicks lately. This team is a mess for a reason.

You're kidding, right? At 37, Kidd isn't going to run anything.

Last I checked, Kidd wanted to play for a contender. Have the Knicks magically transformed overnight??

And on the subject of LeBron to NY, think about it, NJ after the Carter trade, it has the money to go after LeBron too! Team Moving to Brooklyn, and has a better starting base of a team to built on with Harris, Lopez, vs NY Nobody signed past 2010 but Eddy & Jeffries and a couple of rookies Dino, Hill

Agree. This is not just a race between CLE and NY. There are a few other teams with cap space and talent, NJ, MIA etc . . Also expect LBJ to sign a contract with opt outs every 2or3yrs. He's learned that the implied threat that he could leave gives his teams management motivation to kept improving personnal and spending money. No matter where he goes these conversations will continue in chat room for years because an opt out will always be on the horizon.

hell no!!! Please Lakers no Jason kidd, at this point in kidds career, fisher is a better fit for the Lakers..kidd doesnt have the 3 point and clutch shooting of Fisher..

Kidd brings many things but none that the lakers need, kidd belongs in a free flowing offense where he can facilitate not the structured triangle that the Lakers employ..

PG has never been a position that PJ has given any importance too on all his title teams..He used to play big defensive Guards with an outside shot on his teams Like Shaw, Harper, Paxson and armstrong, non of them where the traditional PG's that dominate the ball and orchestrate the offense

He'll stay in Cleveland for at least another 3 years.
