The way Elliot Williams sees it, it's making the best of a bad situation. The recently released Duke guard and former St. George's standout said Saturday he intends to transfer to the University of Memphis in an effort to be closer to his ailing mother, Delois, who is suffering from a serious illness Williams and his family have declined to disclose.

"Declined to disclose" - Sure thing Williams family.

This selfish prick need's to sit out like every other transfer who isnt happy where they made their 1st commitment!

Disclose the illness, or take the YEAR OFF if it's so important to you!

Judging by the pic, if his basketball dream doesn't work out, he could persue a career as a contortionist.

Unlike another player of higher profile in college sports, he actually transferred closer to home to be closer to an ailing parent? That's kinda different for T&R threads, esp. concerning college football

Please be respectful. Why would someone leave Duke for a rebuilding Memphis program? His mother has cancer (terminal). I think unselfish is a better description. If you ever seen him play for Duke or heard Coach discuss him participating in Duke practices, unselfishness was a common virtue when people mentioned his name.

Wow Duke fans are a little snippy!!

June 28, 2009  07:16 PM ET

Hes helping his mom, peopel grow up seriously

Why would they leave Duke?

They can't handle being 2nd fiddle or not getting the spotlight like they are so use to. Going to a "rebuilding" Memphis team would give him the chance to be the so called "man". He's not that good, he's getting abused in the ACC. Go home...and take your purse with you.

bad grammer but i agree with what you said 100%

this guy was an all-acc performer. you guys are crazy. memphis is good, coach pastner is good with the recruits. without coach cal UM is gonna be a good program. this young fella is gonna take em to the promise land.

June 29, 2009  01:40 AM ET

this guy is not a guard also

June 29, 2009  11:58 AM ET

Well, doh. Would have been nice to have him come to Tennessee, although he would have had to sit out a year due to scholarship limits.
Best of luck to him, except when he plays against the Vols, of course. Best of luck to his mom, also.

hes a combo guard/forward

hes 6 foot 4 so hed probably be playing SF in Pastners O seeing how Roburt Sallie is the SG on the team

PG - Mack
SG - Sallie
SF - Williams(this kid)
PF - Williams(HS recruit)
C - Niles

has not to bad of a starting line and im sure thats a above 8 seed for the tourney. Mack has had some starting experience but his minutes went down after his freshman season because Memphis brough in, you might have heard of em, Derrick Rose and Tyreke Evans!!
