Referencing a rumor in the South Florida Sun-Sentinel in Fort Lauderdale, speculation revolved around the possibility of a deal sending Miami's Jermaine O'Neal and Daequan Cook to the Sixers for Elton Brand. The speculation was apparently based on the fact that the Heat had signed Brand to an offer sheet several years ago, only to see the Los Angeles Clippers match. When asked about the rumor, Ed Stefanski said, "Absolutely not."

Pray for it, we pray for it. Think he would complement Wade nicely. But who doesn??t see that.

Elton has had his injuries, but Jermaine's play has dropped way off. Now maybe Philly thinks Elton will not fit into their style of play.

Why would the sixers not pull off this trade. there stuck in a horrible trade and this seems like one of the few ways to get rid of him

June 29, 2009  08:02 AM ET

excuse me. i meant to say they're stuck in a horrible contract for an overrated, old player....not a horrible trade

June 29, 2009  08:05 AM ET

Bosh or Brand???
I will take Bosh every day of the week.
Stick out the year with JO unless you can get Kaman or Bosh early.
Stick to the 2010 FA sweep stakes

The question is why would the Heat do this trade. Brand has proven that he can't last a season and he is not the same player when they were trying to woe him. Brand has become a jump shooter and not much of a low post player anymore. The Heat are wasting their money and time w/ him. At least Jermaine will be done by this year w/ his contract.

June 29, 2009  08:05 AM ET

A Healthy Elton Brand....well that takes me back to three/four seasons ago when he was the man...but it's too bad, players with ridiculous contracts should be immune from injuries.

JO does say he has 4 more years left in him and thinks he can be an All Star again....lol?....and that's coming from someone that has his shot blocked more than anyone else in the league.

There is too much uncertainty around both players...Heat might as well play out JO's contract or see what he has over 20 games or so.

June 29, 2009  08:23 AM ET

Heat won't make the deal for obvious reasons.

1. Elton Brand's contracts will eliminate them from the 2010 sweepstakes.
2. Brand, Wade, Beasely and the scrubs is not enough to win the East let alone a title.
3. Brand is coming off a major injury.

Trust Pat Riley not to fall for this.

June 29, 2009  08:53 AM ET

Brand hasn't been what Philly was looking for. My only thinking behind this is that Jermaine comes off the books at the end of next season and that Philly would gain some cap space in making this deal.

Brand might be a better fit in the Heat's system than the Sixers system and he wouldn't be a bad compliment to D. Wade.

I see the logic but I doubt it happens.

I'm having flashbacks to the Moses Malone for Jeff Ruland trade. I'm sure this would work out equally as well. (heavy sarcasm intended).

Can anyone think of a single time in the last 25 years where you said to yourself, "Wow, good trade by the Sixers".

June 29, 2009  09:38 AM ET

The Brand signing sure turned sour on Philly quick. Dude didn't even last a season before being discarded.

Scott, there was the ah, um. No wait. Let me get back to you on that.

June 29, 2009  09:46 AM ET

DaQuean Cook....didn't the Sixers' originally draft that guy?

Elton Brand had some bad luck in his first season with the Sixers....Do they dump him after one season? I don't think they will....It sends a bad message to other "possible" free agents when thinking about signing here....If they don't perform in the first season they'll be sent packing to play somewhere else....

Dalembert is the player the Sixers' have to desperately get rid of.....I'd get rid of him for anything....just get him off our roster....

June 29, 2009  09:47 AM ET

Ok I got one. Picking up Mutombo from the Hawks for Theo Ratliff, Nazr Mohammed, Toni Kuko??, and Pepe Sanchez. That team made it to the NBA Finals.

June 29, 2009  09:55 AM ET

Can we count Dr. J as a trade? The Nets actually sold his contract to the Sixers? If we count that as a trade....that would be the one of the two that comes to mind as a great deal....

Moses Malone was traded to us....all we gave up was Caldwell Jones and a 1st Round draft pick in 1983.....I think that worked out pretty darn well for the team....

The same Mutombo, that by the next year Larry Brown stopped playing him and then sent him to the Nets(I think). Not saying it was the reason but that AI led team never achieved the heights again.

I like Brand, but I wonder whether he's just a hard foul from being down again. The Heat need a true center. I'd rather have Chris Kaman.

June 29, 2009  10:02 AM ET

I don't follow the 76ers but I know that Elton was a good player a couple years ago and now it seems that is kinda like Shaq. Am i right?

June 29, 2009  10:03 AM ET

Not to beat a dead horse but Mutombo was brought in specifically to play Shaq in the finals. Shaq ate him up.

Haslem does the same things Brand does only difference is one is the main guy and the other is a key role player.
If Haslem was Miami's leading scorer am sure he could grab up 20/10 a night like Brand.
We got a rookie backup powerfoward in whats his face.
Point blank period Bosh is the answer and as other teams like the Cavs, Magic, Hawks & even Wizards have improved there roster Miami has done little.
Wade and Riley need to discuss this back and forth drama like men face to face cause the media thing isnt helping one bit.
