OKC, Pistons, Blazers chasing Millsap

There was speculation Sunday that Oklahoma City might be preparing to make a push to sign Paul Millsap as a restricted free agent. Former Jazz director of player personnel Troy Weaver now is an assistant general manager with the Thunder. The Thunder unsuccessfully tried to sign away C.J. Miles from the Jazz last summer. They are expected to have $11 million in salary-cap space and could offer a contract in the neighborhood of five years and $65 million to a free agent. Detroit and Portland also could be potential Millsap suitors.

where would the blazers play millsap?

they need a 3 or a pg. he's not goign to be a backup pf.

Milsapp has got it made. He just needs to wait for the highest bidder.

Detriots new starting frontcourt will get fouled out every game....Millsap put up really reliable numbers last season, might get a huge contract.

I like Millsap, and think he can be a starter in the NBA. OKC needs big-men, but especially a center and Millsap is too short to play C. He would come of the bench for the Thunder.

Given how these NBA brats disappear as soon as they sign long contracts y'd think GM's will stay away from one-hit-wonders like Millsap and go for proven players like Boozer instead...

June 29, 2009  08:55 AM ET

I get OKC and the Pistons but doesn't Portland have a ton of big men? If they ended up with Millsap they would have to move some of those guys out.

Anyway, Detroit is going to be at the front of the line for either Millsap or Boozer and the one that doesn't remain in Utah might as well consider himself a Piston.

i would like to see millsap with the thunder because he brings toughness but what they truly need is a tough center nenad kristic is no center he thinks posting up is standing 18 feet away from the basket and bj mullens who draft specialists label "overall very raw" and you know most of the time they label a player very raw the go out and do nothing

June 29, 2009  09:39 AM ET

Millsap is giong to end up getting overpaid big time.

Isn't Millsap restricted? With Boozer talking of opting out of his contract, I don't see the Jazz letting Millsap go. The offers being made to Millsap will probably be matched by the Jazz.

June 29, 2009  10:13 AM ET

I would go to the best city with the best team......Detroit, the city is a s-hole and the team stinks. OK city is a s-hole with a team on the up-swing. Portland is an awesome city with a championship caliber team. I am from Houston and just visited the three cities and if they pay the same go to Portland!!

agreed, i don't see them letting him go either, they'd rather let Boozer walk away.

And as far as Mullens on OKC goes, Mullens didnt even start for Ohio State in college, he has several years to go until he can get playing time in the NBA

If Boozer leaves, he should go back to Lebron or Dwade or Carmelo.

The problem for the Jazz is that Boozer, Okur, and Korver all have the option to opt-out of their contracts. If Boozer and Okur choose to stay in their contracts, then paying Millsap will put them into Luxury Tax territory, which the Jazz management are very careful not to enter. However, recent indication is that Boozer and Okur will both opt-out, in which case the Jazz are likely to pay Millsap and re-sign Okur. There has even been talk that if Boozer does opt to stay in his contract, the Jazz will likely look to trade him, choosing to keep Millsap. The Jazz management and fans preference is to keep Millsap over Boozer at this point. Jazz fans here love Millsap's work ethic and toughness. Boozer has definitely worn out his welcome in Utah.

what comes first though?
- will boozer opting out be 'official' before they have to match ?

I think if they allw booz to walk- which I wouldn't do....
they will obviously match any milsap offer

I think PM is going to be a good player in the league-
but he doesn't give you what Booz does.....low post scoring

Portland already has Lamarcus Aldridge, he's a good power-forward.

THEY DONT HV A BANGER LK MILSAP.

June 29, 2009  01:06 PM ET

I hope none opt out and that Utah signs Milsap to 8 a season and then trades boozer and miles for deng and tryus thomas

QUOTE:

Boozer needs to Opt-Out by June 30, all of next season signed contract start on July 1st. Free agent and restricted FA can start getting offers July 1st, but can not sign till July 14th. A team with a RFA has 7 days to match or lose the RFA player. Or try to workout a sign-n-trade with that team only. The other thing to remember is there is No reason a RFA player has to work out with his Team a sign-n-trade or that the team making the offer needs to do a sign-n-trade.

so bottom line is Utah will know whether Booz OR Okur are
opting out by the start of the FA period......right?

If the NBA is smart- they should OUTLAW these stupid 'opt-out'
clauses the next time the CB agreement comes up........
or at least not offer them anymore-
it's WAY too much an advantage for the player-

GOOD POINT. PAUL ALLEN WILL OFFER HIM BG MONEY THAT THE JAZZ WONT BE ABLE TO MATCH.
