JaMarcus Russell's work ethic questioned

The work ethic of quarterback JaMarcus Russell is still being questioned by many who have worked with him in the past and are working with him now. After he issued a call to his teammates to practice and finish the OTA days strong, he then disappeared and was AWOL on the last day. Russell must learn that talent alone is not going to make him successful. Dedication to becoming a better player is what he needs.

Before anyone get's terribly upset by the latest snippet on Russell's professional incompetence remember this: He skinned Al Davis out of zillions.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

And this surprises who?

"Russell must learn that talent alone is not going to make him successful."

Jeff Garcia knows this without having to be told. That's why he'll be starting on opening day.

I hope he enjoyed getting paid like a #1 pick, because this almost guarantees him third-stringer pay from now on... if he manages to get signed by anyone when his Raider deal expires.

Racist!

Maybe he's already looking for an escape hatch to get out of Davisland. This way, he gets to sit on the bench and not get hurt while he pockets a big salary. Then, he gets traded or released to find a better team. (There are few worse teams, after all.)

There are other strategies, of course, like getting involved in dog fighting, drunk driving or shooting yourself, but this is the only one that doesn't involve jail time or doing pennance at the feet of The Commish.

Funny quote, but in all seriousness, who would want JRussel? Or for that matter, who would want Vince Young? Even though VY has had a small degree of success, Russel hasn't done a thing in the NFL. I can't imagine anyone who would want to take a chance on him. Didn't Kiffin want to pass on him when he was the Raiders' coach?

His weight and size shows this....

June 29, 2009  08:25 AM ET

T & R , just had an article last week about how mature, and hard working he was in camp......

June 29, 2009  08:42 AM ET

The truth is, he's going to have to prove it during the season because no matter what he does during the off-season, he will be judged by what he does on the field. Thats the media circus just trying to make a story out of a non-story.

This is another reason why the new collective bargaining agreement must adjust the rookie pay scale to not give this kind of money to unproven talent, and instead free up the $ to reward those players that actually have proven they can and want to play.

Amen, but that will be one hell of an uphill battle. The only way I see it being possible to limit the rooking contracts, is to require teams to payout a minimum % of the overall salary cap, say 90% or more. The reason for that; you will need NFLPA behind you as well as the players agents. By making sure their incomes will not take a hit, the millions that used to go to the top picks will be paid out in larger contracts for the veterans, they'll have no personal reason to oppose. And the veteran players will jump on board, because this will ensure larger contracts for them. Then and only then will you have an option they'll be willing to listen too.

I give him 2 games max. Then Garcia takes over.

Master Baiting again? I do think it is genetic, but not racial. He seems to have the genetic predisposition for accipio obliviar, the genetic abnormality that causes one to forget their receivers.

If it looks like a rat....if it smells like a rat....then by golly, it must be a rat!!!

The Raiders are a disfunctional organization. Garcia will do a better job, but even somebody at the Payton Manning or Tom Brady level isn't going to get more than a few wins with this team.

The personnel change that's needed is for Al Davis to put the other foot into the grave. Sell this team in eBay.

His work ethic was always an issue.

The Black quarterback rarely works out in the nfl. Sorry to say, but it's true. And yes, I am black.
