The Mariners have done a good job staying in the race and may not be ready to trade their chips, but Erik Bedard and Jarrod Washburn would be attractive to contending teams such as the Brewers, Mets, Phillies, and Rangers.

Bedard to the Mets would be legit...their bullpen need some support from the starters, otherwise their arms will be done by September. Not sure they have the prospects to make it happen though.

Bedard's a good pitcher but so injury prone. I'd be a bit concerned with bringing him in.

June 29, 2009  09:42 AM ET

Bedard is a great pitcher. But.....He is poison to the club house and will be spending more time in the doctors office than the dugout. Trust me on this. Glad we got the best of that deal.....(Jones)

The funny thing about this article is that the METS are contenders, right..... And I have to stop laughing...

St. Louis should be talking to Seattle........

June 29, 2009  10:18 AM ET

AMEN, Ten! I said that once I saw that Seattle wanted to trade up for next year - before htey started winning

Good Morning!

...and Tillman and Sherrill

The Brewers could sure use some pitching. They remind me of the White Sox of the early to mid seventies, they can score in bunches but still lose because they can't keep the other team from scoring.

I'd be surprised if Washburn was traded, but what do I know? LOL

Bedard to the Jays.

Why is he poison in the clubhouse?

One point about Bedard, he is more or less a 6 inning pitcher, so don't expect him to give you ace length. Longer starts of course in the NL, especially so in some of the bigger parks like LA, San Diego, San Fran, or Citi Field.

Stargate, let's hope that Mozeliak is in touch with them. The Cards desperately need another starter.

I would love to keep trade Washburn for a prospect or two, but lets keep Bedard....a rotation led by Felix, Bedard and Morrow is tough to beat, even if Bedard gets hurt every other week.

Tough to poison the clubhouse when you're not in it.

Bedard to the Jays.

That would never happen but would actually make the most sense.

June 29, 2009  02:43 PM ET

I have been watching Bedard for 2 years. When he is pitching, he is one of the best. He is in the last year of his contract. But he has this self-imposed limit of 100 pitches. Speculation is that he wants to keep his ERA low to be in a better contract negotiating position at the end of this year. Fragile. Handle with care. Washburn would be a good pickup. He is tough and will give 100%...........if others are doing the same.........last year of his contract. Jack Z is not Bavasi ( thank god) so don't expect another give away, yard sale.

bedard to mets would work out

The Mets really do not need help at pitching, Nieve is working out just fine! They need a power hitter to assist Wright and for when Beltran comes back.

Bedard is an injury proned head case...please do not bring him to the Phillies.

Put him on the Mets, he fits right in with their overpaid underperforming cast.
