Sources: Goodell to be tough on Plaxico & Vick

05:35 AM ET 06.30 | NFL commissioner Roger Goodell is leaning toward indefinitely suspending former New York Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress and continuing to sideline quarterback Michael Vick, three sources with knowledge of the situations have indicated. Such moves would be the latest examples of Goodell's tough stance on players embroiled in off-field issues as evidenced with the suspension of Cleveland Browns wide receiver Donte Stallworth earlier this month.

He should....on behalf of the hundreds of other players who don't act like their entitled to do as they please.
There are rules gentlemen....don't kill helpless animals and don't shoot yourself!

So true. But I don't think they have lived in the real world since the first time they did something athletic where all of the sudden everyone is telling them how great they are and how special they are.
It's sad.

con-Vick lied straight to his face. He is only sorry he got caught not sorry for what he did. I do believe he has paid his debt and now his employer has his right to punish him for his violations of workplace rules. Kind of like the military , he will get the double whammy. Plax, well you just can't fix stupid. Goodell should make him take a gun safety course just because. Both will get suspensions. Vick should be about 10 games Plax around 8. Just my opnion on Goodell and what he has done in the past. Banning Vick for a whole season as well would not be out of the picture. He will tell him he has one year to prove he is really remorseful.

I think if your a felon you should have the same bull crap everyone else that's a felon does getting a job... The NFL should act like companies do in this situation..

Can a suspended player practice with the team?
If so, a half-season suspension would mean very little for Vick. It would take him that long to learn the playbook and sync up with the receivers, besides just establishing his own rhythm again. Also, nobody is looking at him as a starter, so he might sit on the bench anyway.
Plax is a different story. A receiver should be able to move into the lineup immediately. Most teams get their whole receiver corps into the action at some point during every game. Besides, it's likely that Plax still has time to serve as a guest of the State of New York.

What most companies ask is, "Can we find a non-felon who is just as good as this guy?" In most cases outside of sports, the answer is yes, and the honest guy gets the job. In the Vick case, it's not as clear. Personally, I put Vick in the "mediocre" class of QBs at the NFL level. Even so, he's probably a better player than the guys behind center for a lot of teams. Very few teams are lucky enough to have a guy even that good backing up their starter, too.
So, once again, it comes down to whether a team thinks Vick + baggage is worth it.

vick has paid his debt .... so has plax .
time to move on
I am tired of hearing about vick lying to the commish when the owners and league have lied to the players for years about the $$$$$
and plax shot himself ... I know he broke the law by carrying an unregistered firearm , but someone great once said all laws repugnant to the constitution are null and void and I agree w/ that.
It simply is the image police going all KGB on the less than desirable elements in the league.
Stallworth on the other hand should get the hammer 2 - 3 years or even a lifetime ban.
Killing people by being reckless would be a great platform to make an example of someone.

Regardless of how you feel about the constitutional issue of "keep and bear arms," allowing a gun to discharge accidentally in a crowded nightclub is the same level of negligence that Stallworth had. If the pedestrian hadn't been jaywalking, chances are Stallworth would have made it home OK with no incident. (Not condoning DUI, you understand, just stating the facts.) On the other hand, suppose Plax's gunshot hit someone else other than Plax? Suddenly, stupidity might become manslaughter.
If neither of these guys ever sets foot on a gridiron again, you won't see me complaining about it.

the difference is. to punish someone for what could have happened and to punish someone for what did happen are horses of different colors now aren't they mate. I could care less if either moron gets back to the league either but the fact that someone was mowed down by a dude that was hammered at daylight is many times more serious than killing fighting dogs or shooting ones self IN MY HUMBLE OPINION.
plax and vick have already had to sit out .... vick has been suspended since before he was sentenced ..... stallworth's deal happened in the off season & it was a fatal accident but fatal none the less .
