Does Artest still want to be a Rocket?

Ron Artest considered the Rockets a championship contender when he indicated last month that he hoped to remain with the team. The Rockets could find out quickly if he and other free agents still feel that way. Artest's agent, David Bauman, declined to comment on the impact Yao's injury might have on Artest's decision.

Unless the Rockets overpay him and somehow swing a deal for Stodemire he's gone. If he doesn't get madd loot he may take the mid level exception and join Shaq and Lebron in Cleveland. I seriously hope that doesn't happen.

9 Years in the league and 38 mil (US) over that period.

...compared to other players that isn't that much. Money isn't everything especially when he wanted time away to focus on recording one season - u never know with Ron Artest. 08-09 The Rockets were effective as a unit and had great chemistry and most of their players were very cohesive. Individually in the playoffs Artest had a PER of just 12.5 which only tells one side of the story.

He might get around 10 mil maybe.

T-Mac's brittle disease is contageous look at Yao. No Yao, T-mac will miss atleast 30 games. Hard to call Ron-Ron a franchise player any more. A very good player, but not franchise material. He'll resign the start complaining about the state of the team and how he was not told the truth and be shipped out via trade once again.

I think it's an easy assumption to say Rockets aint making the playoffs - even though people like to look at the fact the went a great distance against the Lakers without Tmac and Yao.

Ron Artest is worth more than the mid-level. Somebody will pay the man.

June 30, 2009  08:29 AM ET

Artest will not get paid in Houston. Other teams now has the leverage over him. Artest can't be the foundation for the team and that's what's going to happen if he signs w/ the Rockets. Yao and TMac are done and that leaves only Artest. Houston cannot afford to pay one more player that makes tons of money especially if he is not going to carry the team. Houston has been burned too much. Artest will sign w/ the Lakers if Odom or Ariza are not signed by the Lakers.

LOL-
wiat a minute- that's EXACTLY why he ain't settling for
anything other than the biggest contrect offered....PERIOD

He didn't 'choose' to make less- he was FORCED because of his
knuckle-headedness behavior......
Now that he's proven to be 'stable' he's ABSILUTELY getting top
dollar....from SOMEONE-

I GUARANTEE he ain't signing for a simple mid-level

I can just picture the insane shots Artest would be throwing up if he ended up being the Rockets go-to guy next year. Frightening.

Rockets seem to be spiraling out of control. For years it appeared they may be legitimate contenders and now they're tumbling. At the same time, they've got great trade chips and its too soon to throw them out of the playoff picture.

Agreed. It's not that he's overdue a big payday...he's getting one now because he's finally behaving himself.

Hopefully this Leopard has changed his spots!

im not sure they could afford him, but artest in a nuggets uniform would be pretty intriguing. IMO. obviously him and melo play the same position, but artest could easily play the 2.

"Hello..Ron..it's me Chauncey...what do you think of the Mile High City"

June 30, 2009  11:34 AM ET

I think Ron likes Houston. He stays a Rocket because of the City and his fondness of Rick Adelman.

June 30, 2009  11:37 AM ET

Poor Yao...the burden of the world on his shoulders has been so damaging...

June 30, 2009  11:43 AM ET

Houston needs to consider blowing it up cos without Yao they are on the same level as the Milwaukee Bucks...

Even worse, because Milwaukee could be going somewhere.

Well, with the Yao situation, I don't believe any free agent with asperations of winning an NBA title would consider Houston contenders. Just a few days ago, Tracy McGrady's name was tossed around in many trade senerios, but as of today; he's looking very good in Houston now. If your already a member of the Houston team, then you must suck it up and give it your all. I'm sure the big picture the team once had is no longer visible. Ron Artest may want to sign a one your offer with the team, just long enough to get a feel for the Yao situation and then if its not looking to promising, bail. No one would blame you for abandonment if you give it a try and if the situation looks cloudy, without a future, get the hell out. It's unfortunate for Yao, every time it looks like he's about to unleash his true game something happens. He had problems with his foot a few year previous.

LA Lakers could use Ron. Lucky the celtics were not healthy. LA still does not have that tough guy defender. Celtics will be back. They have one more run in them. Interesting year ahead for the NBA. Go Lakers!

Ariza is pretty legit...no Artest on the ball but still one of the better perimeter defenders, no doubt.

People on here toss around terms like "10 million" "38 million" etc. I don't even have $20 in my wallet right now. Can you spare me some change sir?
