Mets in market for big bat?

The possibility that Carlos Beltran will miss a sizable amount of time, if not the rest of the season, puts even more pressure on Mets GM Omar Minaya to swing a trade to bring his depleted team a bat. Washington's Nick Johnson and Adam Dunn, and Aubrey Huff of the Orioles have been linked most often to the Mets after Mark DeRosa's weekend trade to the Cardinals.

Bring in Dunn.....

How about bringing up the #1 prospect and giving him a try?

If Beltran, Delgado and Reyes miss the rest of the season (or most of the rest of the season) there's no point in trading young talent for an established big bat with a fat and/or expiring contract.

Their Gm is on the hot seat. He has to at least look like he is trying to better the club to win this season, or he is toast.

I totally agree. They've needed another big bat since the start of '07. Omar can't seem to find his guy. It's too bad to hear about Beltran, but now the pressure is really on. I'd love to see Dunn for the Mets. They need another guy who strikes out a lot and plays iffy defense...

We need HEALTHY bats!

what about victor martinez? he could play 1B til delgado comes back, then he could move behind the plate. as a marlins fan i would hate to see this, but it seems like a good fit.

Agreed. No point in making a trade right now, you'll want to see where you are at the trading deadline and then make a move if one is out there to make. Selling may be the thing to do as well.

It's a little to late for that because even with one big bat, the Metsies are not making the playoffs!! Bye, bye Minaya!!!!

I think Aubrey Huff would work out pretty well for the Mets, and I personally don't think it would take an incredible deal to get him from the Orioles. They're gonna be sellers this year, but Huff is in the last year of his deal, so a deal probably could be had fairly easily.

There will be quite a few askers for Huff, and Andy MacPhail is smart and will hold out for someone to overpay for Huff (see Bedard trade).
