06:14 AM ET 06.30 | Jason Kidd plans to meet with Knicks officials Wednesday morning, opening day of the free agent recruiting period. A league source told the Daily News Monday night that Kidd is scheduled to sit down with Knicks president Donnie Walsh and head coach Mike D'Antoni early Wednesday. Kidd said in January that he would strongly consider signing with the Knicks. Kidd, who helped the Nets reach back-to-back NBA Finals before being traded to Dallas two years ago, is giving the Mavericks the first chance to re-sign him. The future Hall of Fame point guard will speak with Dallas officials before he talks to the Knicks. It is believed that Kidd also will talk to the Portland Trail Blazers.

Man this is bullcrap... he's using the Knicks for leverage. Why would an old player of his caliber play for a lottery team? Plus he has to take less money on top of it? Nah Walsh don't waste your time... let the man go where he deserves to be.

June 30, 2009  07:16 AM ET

its also rumored the cavs might be talking with him as well

June 30, 2009  07:20 AM ET

this guy is chasing the $$$$$$$ why else would he consider a bottom feeder like New York right now? Thought he wanted a title, guess not.

June 30, 2009  07:24 AM ET

i thought he wanted a championship...guess not

June 30, 2009  07:41 AM ET

Obviously for the leverage

June 30, 2009  07:46 AM ET

He had his chance at a title against the Lakers and Spurs...sometimes it just isn't meant to be.

June 30, 2009  08:05 AM ET

Dont do this Donnie Walsh

JKidd is using all of his savvy to get the best deal. He has the leverage and he will get paid. If he does not get the deal in NY or Portland then there is always Dallas to bail him out. Dallas is held hostage for now. Dallas should be looking for another PG and not put their eggs in the JKidd decision. There are PGs out there that are younger and have lots of potential. Raymond Felton, Ramon Sessions, and Andre Miller are some other PGs that they should interview and maybe give some offer.

Jason Kidd is a shell of himself at this point of the game. It really isnt something we should have a topic over-can we all move on...

He can only get a mid level exemption with the Knicks so it's not about money with them.

well what else could it POSSIBLY be ?
- the knicks ain't CLOSE to even being competetive this year

June 30, 2009  09:18 AM ET

he will end up in Cleveland. they need him the most and best chance to win a championship

You're right...I don't know WHY he would consider this if it isn't monetary. Unless maybe...just maybe...he thinks LeBron is going to join him. That's the ONLY thing I can think of at this point.

June 30, 2009  09:26 AM ET

You mean the Knicks aren't a title contender?!?

June 30, 2009  09:27 AM ET

In all seriousness, it would have been nice to see Kidd running D'Antoni's offense when he was still in his prime.

he's simply saying he's visiting everywhere to - as others said-
make teams think he's in high demand- so someone will be
foolish enough to throw him one last big contract-
it's a smart ploy

Nothing is wrong with the Knicks talking to Kidd,he already knows the Knicks can only offer him the mid-level.Even at his advance age he would be a big upgrade in point guard position for the Knicks.

I could see this happening. This is Cleveland's last year to appease King James. They don't win it all next season and L.J. is outta there!

Hey, L.J. rhymes L.A. Go Clippers!

Why on earth would James leave Cleveland?

He's from Ohio, they are getting better every year, and what other team is more appealing? He is an established star player in his home state.. .what more can he want besides a title?.. and which team is closer to a title than Cleveland?

As for endorsement... can the man possibly be on more commercials? He's the most visible player in the NBA already.

Man those three combined at the end of their careers, arent going to match up to Jason Kidd. He is old now, but still a very valuable and productive. How can you hate on a guy that has busted his arse his whole career, for trying to get paid. If he wants a Championship, its not going to be with the Knicks, Mavs, or Blazers. His time is limited so his best shots are L.A.( who doesnt need him) Boston ( he can add to the geriatrics) or Cleveland ( Lebron and Shaq). All three of these teams have pretty solid point guards and arent in dyer need of a pg or scorer. So his best bet is to get as much money as he can before he is forced or chooses to retire.
