Marbury warns free agents about Knicks

Stephon Marbury, who becomes a free agent again today, believes star players should be cautious about signing with the Knicks because of Mike D'Antoni's offensive scheme and the way the organization treats people. "I wouldn't want to play in that system,'' Marbury told The Post. "That system can't win championships. You can't win championships if you don't talk about defense. In Boston, the coaches even play defense.'' Marbury said he believes being exiled for four months "mentally damaged'' him and effected his Boston performance.

Marbury.. shaddap and worry about yourself..

go lakers =]

it doesn't matter who said it....

it's true

I remember one playoffs and Kurt Thomas was playing mean D against Duncan but D'Antoni went back to Stoudamire and had Marion at the 4, for whateva reason - then of course the Spurs broke away.

Also when they beat two very average Lakers teams in the PLayoffs and during the regular season Mike trash talked Phil Jackson coz he called a meaningless timeout - see who gets the last laugh now.

Marbury is mentally damaged, and his performance in Boston is the same with every team he plays for!

"mentally damaged''

He's got that right.

Oh, shut up, Marbury, who'd want to listen to you.

my man is as right as rain...New York will never win a championship with D'Antoni's system be it with Lebron, Jason Kidd or whoever...

If you are taking career advice from Marbury, you probably have more serious issues that deciding what team to sign with!!

Marbury is straight dump and if we all know he's mentally damaged. He should seek help and get outta sight. Of course if y're 32 and you got a tatoo on your head somethings wrong with you. Knicks should look into suing him for talking about them. This guy forgot all the retarded ignorant things he did to the Knicks organization.... arrrggg where's a gag order when you need it... Any team he plays for will lose! the guy is just a destined bad luck guy!

This is so true. Marbury is a lot of things (dumb, overrated, crybaby, etc etc) but he is so right about this. if u don't play defense u can't win a championship. playground basketball ain't gonna cut it

The Knicks better make some splash this summer or else they are not going anywhere. They need to prove that they can bring somebody in this summer or else Lebron or some other big stars won't even entertain of visiting NY next year.

July 1, 2009  08:27 AM ET

Good for him-the Knicks did him wrong...So he'll scream out to anyone who will listen. No one had to deal with the garbage he had to deal with last year. Knicks are so vindictive-they get what they deserve.

Go Celtics-lets pick up Rasheed and get #18!!!

July 1, 2009  08:33 AM ET

Yeah I have to agree with Marbury on this one, say what you want about him but he is spot on. I am a Knicks fan and that organization has been in the dumps before Isaiah and still is with Walsh. i don't see any big free agents coming next year unless they have a good year this upcoming season which I doubt that they will.

July 1, 2009  08:46 AM ET

While, I wish Steph would just shut up, he is right on this one. The system is great if you want to come and put up numbers, and bring some much needed flash to the Garden, but it's true that you cannot win a title without defense. Defense is something that D'Antoni hasn't put much stock in to and there aren't players of defensive value currently in the organization.

Why don't you ask yourself the same question. What have you done with your life, cured cancer?

Again with this defense wins championship line. Watching pregame shows before the championship games, they kept saying that the lakers were poor defenders. So which is it?

The Lakers do play defense though. Kobe and Ariza are great defenders. They just have their moments where they look lousy.

I wonder how it will take for Marbury to move on with his life. It may complicate it because he is from NY, but he should let it go. He wasted almost a year of his career, who knows how much more time he has.

If anyone knows something about "not having a chance in he!! of winning a championship" its Marbury. The second he goes to any team they have ZERO chance of winning sheut.
