Carlos Beltran's trip to Vail, Colo., provided a reassuring diagnosis. Dr. Richard Steadman, who examined Beltran on Monday, agreed with the team medical staff's assessment that the center fielder is suffering from a bone bruise. Steadman recommended that Beltran remain inactive until after the All-Star break, which is slightly longer than Mets doctor David Altchek initially had suggested.

Good news for the Mets, the talk yesterday was that he may be gone for the season? You can't just sub in for a guy like that, especially on a team that's been struggling with the bats. Thankfully the Phillies have been tanking too. It'd be nice to see the Mets make the playoffs.

It would be nice to see the Mets make the playoffs, but it would be HILARIOUS to see them tank it in September again. Also, watch out for Nieve. He is not nearly as good as those first three starts indicated. Take it from an Astros fan; his last outing is what we're used to seeing from him.

I'd have figured a Dolphins fan to be more sympathetic.

He had to go all the way to Vail so a doctor there could tell him the same thing the team medical staff did?!.............. There wasn't anyone closer?.......

You seem very bitter - did Mr. Met pop your mom or something???

It's funny how one doctor's diagnosis is a bone bruise and to stay inactive til after the all-star break, while another's is that Beltran's career could be over. I just don't understand how these quacks could have such varying opinions on the same injury.

wow...thats the alst thing my METS need right now...even tho we are playing god awful they Phillies are keeping us in it by playing crappy too.

You know when a player "has doubts" about his issues - nothing good will come out of this diagnosis !!!

July 1, 2009  06:32 PM ET

A bone bruise could keep him out a long time, you never know about that? Want matter anyway, the way the Mets are playing!

Good I don't want to hear any excuses again at the end of the year when the Philly's have stomped a a hole in ya for the third year in a row.
