Nats preparing for more trades?
The real meaning of the Nationals getting outfielder Nyjer Morgan and lefty reliever Sean Burnett for Lastings Milledge and Joel Hanrahan may be what it hints for the future. This is a trade you make if you want to make more deals before the August 1 deadline. Short version, the Nats just got flexibility to make more deals.

How? Even though hes been struggling, Milledge was arguably their top prospect, along with Jordan Zimmerman. And Hanrahan was one of their top guys out of the bullpen. Its a case of a bad team making a bad deal.

Hmmm, I don't think that's Manny Acta in the picture.

Also, I get what the post is saying--the most likely candidate to trade is Nick Johnson--a lefty. If you trade Nick, you want another lefty bat and I think the Nats are pretty fed up with Milledge. Hanrahan has an ERA over 7 and proved that he couldn't close, why not take a shot with Burnett.

Nick Johnson to the Mets... please.
Re: Milledge, he's a punk. He was the Mets' "top prospect" for a long time, and his head is simply too big for his talent. I don't think he'll ever be an everyday producer in MLB, unless he has some sort of epiphany.

The Nationals are going to go deeper into the MLB "cesspool". They will trade whatever talent they have left for "fifty cents" on the dollar.

A team like that actually made a good tr5ade for nyjer stupid trade by the pirates they're trying to build up for the future with those young guys which i don't understand what about now.

After watching the Nats stumble bum there way to three straight losses to the Marlins, I am surprised anyone commented on this trade between two pathetic teams. Marlin fans take note, both have new stadiums that were sold to fans to insure the competitiveness of their teams against the big bad market money teams. All the stadiums have done is enrich the owners and MLB, teams still stink.

Isn't ironically, the Nationals are referenced as Nats? Small, insignificant and worthless in the foodchain-just like their aerial counterparts.

Obviously no one has seen Nyjer Morgan tearing it up w/ his defense and speed. He's an undervalued player and giving up Milledge was nothing. He's a bunch of hype w/ no production. Can't be taught. Morgan's the type of player you want playing on your team cause he's coachable and makes everyone else better.

Nyjer may not be a bad player, but he doesn't help the Nationals in any way. What the Nationals need are prospects, they are bound to lose close to 100 games this year regardless of what they do and next year most likely won't be much better, they need to replenish their farm system and build it from there.
I think, or hope, that the Post got it right because really the only way this trade makes any sense is if the Nationals are planning to use Nyjer and Burnett as parts of future trades.

Someone made the pooint that the NAtionals love one dimensional players (Wily Mo Pena, for example) Super fast Nyjer seems to fit right in there.
