How many times does Milan have to say "NO SALE" for Chelsea to give up their chase of Pato?

July 1, 2009  09:18 AM ET

Quack Quack!

July 1, 2009  09:18 AM ET

Problem is everyone is for sale...Kaka is a great example. He absolutely didn't want to leave but at some point he realized he is not bigger than the club so he had to go.

Not saying Pato is in the same example but if you are Milan...at some point you can't say no, especially if you could strengthen your club with the Pato / Kaka money and find 5 or 6 other players.

Given the silliness of the transfer market these days and the fact that Pato is only 19, let's assume he will get sold. And, as Zizou said, everyone is for sale at the right price. How much do you think he would bring?

July 1, 2009  09:49 AM ET

??20 MM

July 1, 2009  09:50 AM ET

?? = GBP = Pound Sterling

I guess I'm the cynic here, but how do you know Kaka didn't want to leave? I mean, the guy hasn't even been close to winning anything at Milan since the CL cup a few years back. In fact this was the closest they got to winning the Calcio and it wasn't very close. I think he saw the CR backlash and just played his cards right. You won't convince me that he went kicking and screaming to Madrid.

I think he'd bring more in the neighborhood of 30 if Benzema is now rumored to have brought in 35.

Milan are not giving Pato up... a 19 yr old finding PT on a team well known for hoarding aged retiring players?? he certainly wont be going anywhere anytime soon

Dam 30 mill pounds? I think Milan would have to sell at that price. As for Kaka, sure he would not have gone to RM if he did not want to. But I have no reason to believe that he wanted out of Milan to the degree you state. RM has also not won the CL in a while and he turned out bigger bones at City, he has always been a Milan boy and has even said that he will continue to support Milan.

Because he turned down the Man City offer over the January window...and didn't go there this summer even though the offer from Man City was more money.

Granted I am repeating what I have been hearing on podcasts but everything points to Kaka did not want to leave...however, because he HAD to leave given the money Milan would take it and help the club, his personal decision was go with Real and not Man City.

Agree in part that Kaka had to choose where he would want to go.

He didn't want to leave Milan, but he realized that it was inevitable and Real Madrid seemed a better opportunity than Man City.

Milan said they won't sell for less than 50 mil. pounds. Probably posturing, but I'd be amazed if they accepted less than 40 mil. pounds for him. Remember that Pato is two years younger than Benzema and has a history of performing at a level significantly above Ligue 1.

Milan don't have to sell anyone now that they've sold Kaka.

Chelski is barking up the wrong tree here.

The Milan directors said they had to sit down and convince Kaka how badly the team needed the money before he would agree to the sale. The Milan directors don't have a lot of reason to lie about something like that considering it reflects greatly on the player who just left and very poorly on them.

Didn't we already know this a week ago?

In other news, I'm happy we can add more people to the Gold Cup, I was disappointed at some of the names dropped. And I still don't understand why Jon Busch is on there, give younger GKs a chance, and taller ones.

I love the summer because of surprise moves, but I hate the summer because of lame ongoing rumors that'll never happen.

Dropped from the Gold Cup squad? Who? I've only seen that we can add up to 7 players.

Or do you mean from the squad we had at Confed Cup?

All that means is that he didn't want to go to 5hitty, not that he didn't want to leave Milan. Very different things, and let's not forget, he didn't turn 5hitty down cold, there was almost a week where he was mulling over the decision.
