07:06 PM ET 07.01 | David Beckham can expect a negative reaction from some fans when he returns to Major League Soccer next month, U.S. Soccer Federation President Sunil Gulati said. Beckham missed the start of the MLS season after negotiating an extension to his loan at AC Milan that expired today. The former England captain is due to make his comeback on July 16 when the Los Angeles Galaxy visits the New York Red Bulls. "I'm sure there will be some negative reaction from some fans," Gulati said in an interview in Johannesburg where he was traveling with the U.S. national team for the Confederations Cup. "That's inevitable, but in the end he's a good player, a soccer icon and I think he'll help his team and the league. But are there going to be some people that are upset? Sure."

Latest T&R ever. And for this...Why not at least throw in something about Benzema's transfer? But no. FN seems to think we are obsessed with Goldenballs.

I just want to hear his reply to Donovan's critical comments about his lack of commitment and leadership.

One of my good friends does some business with AEG and was given a tour of the dressing room at HDC recently. He said that their lockers are now on complete opposite ends of the room now.
Another friend who is on the training staff said that despite most of the players PUBLICLY saying the understand Golden Balls' decision and support him, there's a ton of grumbling about him and his attitude, very similar to what Wahl's book apparently states.
Even as far up his arse as his head seems to be buried, he can't possibly be completely unaware of how the dressing room feels about him.

If fans don't boo everytime he touches the ball and opposing midfielders knock him down every chance they have, I'll be disappointed.

And if anyone wants to read an excerpt from Grant Wahl's book: "The Beckham experiment" go here:

I haven't read it yet, but from what I've heard this book doesn't portray Beckham in a very good light.

This guy is a joke but I hope fans go to Galaxy games to watch Lando instead of this jerk-off. Im a season ticket holder for the Galaxy and will definetly not miss a game from here on out becuase this is Donovan's last season.
I was at the game when Landon made his debut for LA and scored twice and set up Cobi Jones with a beutiful pass and I hope I get to see his last goal for LA.

That is the most compelling part of the whole story. I've always been on the fence when it comes to Landon, but recent events have made him a firm favorite of mine. And I won't lie- I'm going to buy and read this book. In fact, based on what I've read so far, I would recommend every owner and GM in MLS do the same. There is certainly a cautionary tale in there.

By the way, I mentioned on the Pato rumor that I expected a Goldenbollocks rumor before the week was out in regards to the book. I hate being right sometimes.

I think alot of us that use to be LD haters have very much changed there minds over the past 2 years... The guy is all heart now... After years of pooping on him, I have to say I am FIRMLY, more than ever, a LD fan. I hope he let's Beckham know that he needs to step it up for the Galaxy...

signing Beckham was a stupid idea. I was convinced of it from the very first moment. He is just sucking you guys dry. Money is the only thing he cares about. He is not a good teamplayer, he is not a 'developer' and he is not as good as people like to portray him. He is an overall mediocre player with some good looks, a famous wife, and a clever managment.

I shouldn't be mad ebcause anyone of us in the same position would have done the same to resuscitate a career, but dang I feel he used MLS like cheap hooker because no one else would give him a half decent deal, he knew he had opt out and played for a new contract in Europe. MLS would have been better off investing all that money into player development leagues.

The excerpt from Wahl's book was revealing. I expected him to have an ego, but not be as selfish or presumptuous as he apparently was from the get go. He never really wanted to be here, and judging by his stay in Milan, that hasn't changed (actually, it's intensified). How, exactly, are things supposed to be different this time around? Beckham revealed who he was and what he was: a marketing gimmick with a good touch on his passes.
He'll leave--at the latest--at the end of this season, as his contract allows (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writers/grant_wahl/11/03/wahl.beckh am/).

if i was him i would stay at Milan too, he realizes he made a stupid choice coming to play in the states, he wants to face the best in the world, and that can only happen in Europe, anybody who plays sports or understand sports it's all about competition. he came for the money, he knows it was a bad choice. we shouldn't hate him for it

What was the point of bringing Beckham to the USA if he doesn't even want to play here? Is one man worth that much? Especially for US Soccer?

I want to clearly state for the good of this posting site that WE or I was the starting point of ALL reports ANYWHERE that Everton was intersted in Dempsey six months ago... Dammit...
Al ot of what we say here seems to be way out front of the people reporting on any major soccer site---and just for the record, we once again had this one WAy BEFORE anyone at T&R.

Damn I'm a heterosexual male with **** features my name is Tony Purse from Brazil, hello Truth and Rumor community. I would just like to say that Beckham is a hot piece of ass, I think that's the right word to describe his playing style in America, no?

maybe MLS thought signing beckham would bring players of a similar quality over also. it didnt happen and sadly its seen as a failure. its more politics than sport and the two very rarely mix well.

I'm not trying to stick up for Beckham in any form - but I do believe he initially did the deal with L.A. after everything else went down the drain for him. He had been dropped by England and Real Madrid was not happy with him. So it kind of made sense to come to a country he enjoys and make money.
Flash forward a few months and he's helped poor Real Madrid win some silverware, England calls him back to camp and his priorities changed like that. Can you fault him? Not really. Can you blame him? You'd be lying if you said yes. Can you dislike him for treating our league like a joke? Absolutely.
