Celtics' top three FA targets are...

Among Danny Ainge's first calls was to Bill Strickland, agent for center-forward Rasheed Wallace. The Celtics' interest in Wallace is not for the long term, though. Wallace, 34, might be the most intriguing of free agent candidates, his relationship with Celtics forward Kevin Garnett a possible advantage. Charlotte, Cleveland, Orlando, and San Antonio have also shown interest in Wallace. According to Andy Miller, agent for Tyronne Lue - a reserve guard for Orlando who is close to Garnett - and forward Antonio McDyess, Ainge has expressed interest in both players.

Rasheed won't have to take many shots, Boston is a Defense Orientated team - Rasheed will be 35 next season - The Ball don't Lie.

Coming off a season where Rasheed averaged 12 and 7 and had a terrible playoffs - he would still be a valuable addition at the right price as there aren't many other big men free agents and he does actually play D.

Most players that have teamed with KG in the front court (Rasho, Perkins...etc) the only pressure they have is to try and match his intensity otherwise they might cry (big baby).

If he isn't too pricey, with this group of people it's not that big of a risk.

Rasheed would give them the length in the frontcourt that they have been missing on the second unit. He's a notch above PJ Brown. He can rebound, block shots, post up, hit the three, and most importantly: help defend Dwight Howard and Shaquille O'Neal.

Celtic should also make a run at Marquis Daniels. Although he's not a good shooter from deep, he can play all three perimeter positions on offense and defense. He could guard opposing shooting guards and small forwards on defense, while allowing Eddie House to play off the ball.

Daniels is pretty solid - coming off his best season too, but the Pacers did decline his 7 mil option so i'm not sure how much he would be expecting.

The Rasheed you talk about was circa 2005.....
it's 2009- that rasheed is long gone
same as McDyess- you don't want OLD guys
you want YOUTH

ferry ...... what r u doing?????????

July 2, 2009  08:15 AM ET

Celtics need to get younger not Older.. Why are they going for Mcdyess and such..?? It doesn't make sense. Wallace was great in his career but I think his time is up. Maybe playing with the Celtics brings back some flashes.

They don't need the Rasheed of 2005. The Rasheed of 2009 can play 15-20 minutes a game and serve as insurance if Garnett or Perkins sustains an injury. The Celtics' time is now: they want to squeeze as many titles out of Garnett-Pierce-Allen as possible. And if they resign Davis, a big man corps of Garnett, Perkins, Wallace, and Davis isn't that old - it's balanced.

Not when your talking about a 2-3 year window to win again... You want Vetrans, win your games now and rebuild after. They could get 2 solid years out of Sheed, and on that team he doesn't have to score 16 and grab 9, He's great at 12 and 7, and he'll take a ton of D pressure of KG

July 2, 2009  08:40 AM ET

All three would be good fits but I really wish the C's would try to target a younger role player.

Out of them all, the first one would be 'Sheed. Sheed is going to be a good fit for the C's.

but a sheed coming off the bench would not give you the 12 & 7
he as a starter in 30+minutes gave you those #'s (which have
been in steady decline he last few years)

Him playing under 20 minutes will give you like 6-8 & 5-6
PLUS he's a mentalcase.....they're already a fairly old team
they need YOUNG bigs to run

Sheed will probably help any team he's on. He may be old, but plays solid D and can still hit the outside 3 and still has that amazing 5-10 post jump shot that he can get (but for some reason never plays the post). AND he defends Dwight better than anyone else I've seen.

BUT, McDyess is a better team mate. He deserves the chance at the title more. he deserved to win one with Detroit. He is loyal to a fault. I love Dice here in Detroit, so its hard to say go get your championship, but its only fair to let go. Go win one dice, you earned it.

We have a good 2-3 year window to get another ring and Wallace can be a big help

That statement is will be valid if Marbury is not resigned - I don't know if it's karma or destiny but wherever he goes loosing follows...

Lol.. good question. The simple answer is same old ****. Ferry and Kerr are on a rat race to build the oldest team in the league... as we speak Ferry's probably trying to talk Mutombo out of retirement for the mid level exception...

Artest and Ariza can wait as Mutombo has more playoff experience....

July 2, 2009  10:13 AM ET

Rasheed, Marbury......maybe Artest is next. Or Iverson.....

July 2, 2009  10:35 AM ET

Go get Sheed and if Davis leaves let's sign Bass. Daniels would also be a nice addition since this is Ray Ray's last year on his contract.

I think Ferry is more intrigued by other players around the league and I really can't blame him this time. Sheed is a good player but I would like to see him push for Artest or even Mcdyess. I think Artest will give you the scoring and defense while Mcdyess is going to put up better numbers with rebounds and might be a better compliment to the clubhouse? The only downside to Sheed and Mcdyess is that they are 34 (going to be 35 this season) and they don't have much tread left on the tires while Artest is younger and can score at will which is what they need.

I agree, Mcdyess is a solid player who just SHUTS UP AND PLAYS BALL! I love to watch him play and it I was a Detroit fan I would not want him to leave either.

lol
no offense- but Ferry is a JOKE
- he continues to sign OLD BIGS for LBJ-
he's already lost out on CV, who EXACTLY do you think he should
make a move for now ? Jos Smith again ?
And don't say Artest-
if CV & gordon got 40-50 mil-
you think Artest is coming for a mid-level?
