Jason Kidd met for more than two hours with coach Mike D'Antoni and team president Donnie Walsh yesterday at the Garden, but they remain heavy underdogs. Dallas owner Mark Cuban already is in negotiations with Kidd on a three-year deal reportedly worth $25 million.

Me thunder!!! Stolen!!!

That's a high number for an older PG who's skills are fading. But hey, It's Cuban working his magic.

Knicks could have never seriously been in the runnings for Kidd anyway in my opinion. Kidd was just using them as a bargaining chip, why would Kidd at this stage of his career even consider the Knicks when they are far from being a contender. As a Knicks fan I would love to have Kidd if we were close to being a contender. if I am Kidd I would go to the Lakers

Also they put their mid level on the table for Grant Hill, well according to the truth and RUMORS

The Knicks never had Kidd to begin with, so I don't get this typical NY Post headline!!

Anyway I wouldn't give J. Kidd a three year deal especially considering no one is going to give him that in the open market. I also wouldn't come close to the 8 or 9 mill or so he wants.

There is no one bidding against the Mavs, so they should play some hardball. 2 year deal at 5 or 6 mill. a year should still be more than anyone else is going to offer him.

Wasn't Nash asking for around the same amount when he was in Dallas? Didn't Cuban say he didnt want to pay for an aging point guard. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe Nash was asking for a lot more.

Grant Hill? Good Lord, thats got to be a rumor. Grant Hill? Nothing against Grant but he's contender made right now. If he leaves Phoenix it's not going to come and play for a Knick team that would be lucky to end next season at 41-41.

Thats because NYers think they own everything. The only team or owner I should say that can truly get whomever he wants is committing battery in my profile picture

they signed him for 3 years because this includes coaching after next season... an expensive coach mind you... lol

Typical out of towner hate. Nothing more, nothing less.

kidd played both the mavs & the knicks.

he had no intention of going to the team with the 4th worst record in the league last year.

July 2, 2009  10:55 AM ET

I wouldn't be surprised if he turns down Cuban dollas and signs a one year deal with the Knicks. Kidd has made allotta money already so he can afford to be closer to his family while playing for the Knicks... he's no Carlos Boozer!

This won't be good riddance in Cleveland but hey there's medicine for anxiety.

July 2, 2009  11:28 AM ET

This was no surprise. When the 2 groups met yesterday, the Knicks did not even offer Jason Kidd a contract. They were playing it safe, and I believe the only thing they could've offered him was a 1 year deal compromising of the mid-level exception. Kidd has already said that he isn't interested in one year deals. New York was playing it safe for the 2010 Free-Agent class.

It's the same thing you said yesterday. At least today you actually made sense. I had to decode that silliness yesterday just to figure you out.

Nash was asking for 12-13 million a year for 5 years. The stupid thing about rejecting Nash w/ that offer before was that Cuban gave the same amount to the same age and overrated center in Dampier. That's where Dallas is stuck at right now. They made the stupid mistake of overpaying a lousy center.

As for JKidd, he was making 20 millions a year last year and getting his service for $8 million a year is already a bargain. The first 2 years is guaranteed and the last year he can be bought out. I believe JKidd would really make a very good addition to the young Knicks team. He will bring leadership and high octane run and gun style game that D'Antoni wants. JKidd will make the players around him better. That's the major intangible that most fans here don't understand. His points may not be high as most fans want but most of the points are created by him through his leadership and making the right decisions to the players on the court.

Jason Kidd is still one of the top point guards in the league...there are few in the league that are true pgs...meaning assisting at a high percentage and not turning the ball over. Plus, he grabs more rebounds than most big men in the league. And he can give you role player's points...He's in shape and he is still skilled. He will be running someone's offense for a few more years.

I didn't say he wasn't 'functional'
I just would not invest THREE years in a soon to be FORTY year old

Who else is giving him THAT much for THAT long ??
