Five teams chasing Birdman

After the first official day of free-agent negotiations, there is optimism that the Nuggets will be able to sign unrestricted free agent Chris Andersen. There are numerous teams inquiring about the NBA's No. 2 shot-blocker from last season, notably Houston, which has all-star center Yao Ming shelved indefinitely, as well as Dallas, Portland and Memphis. But Andersen, who lived in Denver during his two-year banishment from the league for drug abuse, adores the city of Denver and has publicly said he wants to return home.

i thought he was signed to a team playing in Amsterdam?

All I care is that he goes to a team that I can see more of. I don't have the NBA package and Denver isn't shown much in the Miami area. Goto DALLAS so I can see him on Sundays!

Why would Porltand and Memphis want him? Porltand already has all the depth in the world, what they need is an upgrade at those positions. Memphis, on the other hand, just traded for Zach Randolph.

Memphis will put up 130 this year and give up 180.

July 2, 2009  08:31 AM ET

he's a nice player to have- but giving him a lengthy guaranteed
contract is a risk with his history- hopefully he won't fall off the
wagon- but you never know......

He will though have MANY suitors and get signed ot a nice deal

July 2, 2009  08:54 AM ET

I can't see why Denver wouldn't do what they can to keep him and I also don't get the Portland or Memphis connections.

July 2, 2009  09:28 AM ET

he's safest in Denver. That's where is mentor/lawyer lives and where he's had the best success and stayed away from high-risk, off the court behaviour.

he needs to go to a city where they hv good hair gels and products to spike that hair. lol

very funny

His success story is in Denver. He is not a starter which means he does not deserve starter money. He is basically a defensive specialist and no offensive games except for alley oops and put backs. He should stay in Denver.

Dallas, Portland or Memphis, eh? Here's a quiz for you: which of those three potential destinations has absolutely no allure whatsoever for a free agent?

July 2, 2009  02:17 PM ET

The Nuggs need him to atleast be on the heels of the Spurs and Lakers in terms of depth and bigs and Birdman needs Denver just as much to not only tolerate but encourage his antics...Pop or Phil would not.....LOL!!!!!

Can someone tell the post that all players say they want to return, then most sign elsewhere. It would hurt their negotiating power with other clubs if they said they want out. This way other teams feel they need to up the ante to sign a free agent.

Birdman come play with the Lakers. We got the sun, the hottest girls, and best clubs in the US.

If Andersen leaves Denver, The Authority will be surprised. With teams not being able to throw out $8 million dollar deals, I can't see the Birdman changing scenary for a similar contract.

This will be good news for Denver who got a steal in point guard Ty Lawson. He's the perfect backup for Billups and could be the guy to lead the team 4 or 5 years down the road.

That would be a reason to actually go to a game in the Dutch League, because guys like Jerome Beasley or Sharone Wright(assistant coach) aren't that interesting to go and see them .

if he left denver, he would have to find all new dealers to help him, "make it through the night". lol.
