Archie Manning, Drew Brees and coach Sean Payton are among more than two dozen people with ties to the Saints who together put nearly $2 million into an Elmwood film studio that has failed to return their investments as promised. Manning and an attorney for one of the players said Wednesday that they thought they were taking part in a routine tax credit program offered through Louisiana's motion picture studio incentives until they discovered that the studio project never received state authorization for the credits and that their money was at risk. Manning said he had received a telephone call from an FBI agent seeking information about the studio's investment plan.

It seems a lot of athletes get sucked into scams similar to this. Who gives them their money advice?

July 2, 2009  11:41 AM ET

Guess Archie has nothing better to do than throw away his money... what a flake

July 2, 2009  11:46 AM ET

I love to see a Manning fail.

Start with New Orleans...

Let's see, we can build a large city here. It's only slightly below sea level, and it's right on the ocean, so when it rains a lot all the water will just drain away...

Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner and Vick.

I heard Chris Draft, Stanford grad and LB for the Rams on sports-talk yesterday. He does part of the leagues classes/presentation for the NFL rookies. He said one thing they try to impress upon the new guys is learning who and how much to trust. Maybe they should provide "continuing education" for coaches and veteran players.

I. Hope Roger Goodell will NOT be investigating these transactions - he has enough on his "table' !!!

Let's hope tomorrow's threads are more captivating. These are boring. Come on, FN, make up some Brett Favre crap.

Miss Cleo? Boy are you showing your age :) Her associates used to call up and tell people who had called before that they had a message for them from beyond and for 4.99 a minute they could get in touch. And how is Madoff still alive???

History departments devote at least 10% of their time to the irrelevant events before your birth.

Think of it as a jobs program.

You know, there are those who could argue that Elmwood Productions has been running the franchise.

Seriously.

But it beats wasting the money on a gold grill (Ocho Stupido) or producing a C&W album (Troy Fakeman).

Mike Tyson's accountant or the late Jacko's. How could Jacko have been $470 million in debt?
