RB picks Syracuse over Boston College
One day after picking up a verbal commitment from running back Dom Timbers, of Woodland Hills High School in Pittsburgh, Syracuse University nabbed two more recruits. Steven Rene, a running back/defensive back/athlete from Canarsie High School in Brooklyn, and Ross Krautman, a kicker out of Ramapo High School in New Jersey, gave their verbal commitments to play for the Orange on Wednesday. Rene, 5-foot-8 and 170 pounds, picked SU over offers from Temple, Rutgers, Boston College, Oregon and Hofstra. Pittsburgh and UConn were also recruiting him. Rene said SU recruited him as an athlete and kick returner.

Just read his Scout profile, doesn't seem to be the best talent, but I love this story for a couple reasons. First, Marrone is cultivating ground where Syracuse should control, and, second, he is making Syracuse attractive again. HOpefully this isn't a one offseason phenomenon.

It means he can play several positions and they will slot him somewhere when he gets on campus. when kids are being recruited one of the questions they want to know is what position they are being recruited at. Some kids who are good receivers but also play safety may be recruited at WR by one school and S at another. Depending on which they prefer to play may influence the decision.
Russell Shepard was a Texas lock and would have committed had Mack agreed to let him play QB, his preferred position. But Mack recruited him as a WR which is where he felt his future is. Le Smiles at LSU told him he was being recruited at or would get a shot at QB so Shepard went there. time will tell if that actually happens but the kid is a stud.

Looking at his Scout stuff, it doesn't seem like he is expected to be a great College player. So, given that, I would expect that he is picking Syracuse over BC because he thinks he has a better shot to prove himself at Syracuse than BC.

I agree - I think he probably is looking at playing time at SU versus BC...

Thank Mack for me and the rest of the LSU faithful... We are glad to have Shep... He will def get a shot at QB but the only prob is Jefferson is a stud as well and only 1 yr ahead... But Shep will be used all over the field...
Any news on Lache? We just signed a 4* RB so someone else chances just got stronger... Unless he welcomes the competition

I'd heard about "athlete" as a beta brand for new shaped condoms. I didn't think that these had been released yet.
