Alabama St. decision could impact FSU
It turns out Alabama State, which had its five-year probation for, among other things, academic fraud reduced to three on appeal, is serving as one of several lynchpins in Florida State's rebuttal to the NCAA Committee on Infractions' decision to uphold their vacating-of-wins penalty. According to the Tallahassee Democrat, FSU today officially issued their response to the Infraction Appeals Committee, arguing in part that the precedent set by the Alabama State decision, when coupled with their own self-reporting and self-corrective actions in the case, should lead to the victories that have been taken away being returned.

5 years to 3? That's not a complete overturn. That's a reduction. Maybe FSU should get 40% of it's wins returned. Instead of 14 football wins lost, they only lose 8.4 wins.
This is becoming ridiculous.

Gotta give me one thing, they have certainly circled the wagons for Bowden. Wonder if they know how bad it's making them look.

I doubt it. This is embarrassingly stupid. We need to man-up, take our medicine, and MOVE ON!

can't be as bad as going out to provo and losing to byu. (sept. 19) its not looking good for fsu or miami to start the season, FSU (1-3) and Miami (0-4)

5 years to 3 is like having a reduction from a DD cup to a C cup. UNACCEPTABLE.

Give Bobby his wins. Vacating wins is such a lame a-s-s way to punish a school. Unless JoePa dies before 2011, there is no way Bobby is going to catch him anyway. JoePa has a 3-year deal and Bobby will have to pack his bags in 2. There is no way FSU will pay Jimbo $5 million to keep Bobby around one more year. Let's just move on with this already.

Of course not. Seth is just stirring the pot somewhat with a little trash talk. By UF/UM/FSU standards, it's fairly mild.

I don't see that at all. I think FSU starts the season 4-0. I really think FSU will be a lot better than last year. But, I guess we won't know until the season finally comes.

I do think it is very possible that Miami starts 0-4 and Shannon's seat will be very hot...

Problem is, now the lawyers have their hooks in the situation, and you'd have to gnaw their arms off to get them to let go. Trouble.

don't know, they have miami and jax. st. but ponder is still making mistakes and the o-line still has to prove themselves, no to mention who is going to catch the ball. still a lot of questions to be answered, dakota watson (lb) ran a faster 40 than half of the wideouts. and who is going to be in the starting secondary/at running back.

It's just stupid to vacate wins. It doesn't do anything really. Penalizing (scholarships and post season ban) the next few years matters. Why take away the wins? The only way I can see that being fair is if Bowden knew all of the cheating was going on. But hey. Who knows? Maybe he did.

I agree. If you want to penalize a program do it for current and future things, not past.

Our receivers aren't slow. Our linebackers are fast. Our offense is good, our defense is better. We'll be fine as long as our administrators pull their heads out of their rectums and give up this idiotic appeal.

Coming from out West where we couldn't care much less who you southeastern schools think you are, it is laughable to watch the FSU president prostitute himself for the sake of saving wins for his coach. Anyone but Bowden and this would have been a no contest, no care, let's get on with it affair. To intimate that it is otherwise is an insult to even the dumbest person's intelligence. I don't know who the bigger fool is - FSU or the NCAA. The current arguments, if extrapolated to all other schools, would have the NCAA handing out no sanctions whatsoever since they would be affecting kids who played no part in past wrongdoings. It may be too bad that innocents are hurt by the actions of others, but get over it people - this is real life where that happens everyday.
