Marcin Gortat, the 6-11 center who helped Orlando reach the NBA Finals last season, has been offered a contract by the Mavericks, multiple sources said Thursday. Gortat was expected to visit Dallas before the weekend, and the sources said that the only thing that would prevent him from becoming a Maverick is if the Magic match the offer, which is believed to be for the full mid-level exception -- about $5.5 million.

Gortat/Dampier, not sure what this will do for them.

Good for Marcin; I just hope he contributes to Mavs.

How can soft contribute to soft???

The inside game for the Cavs was basically invisible last season. I have to think that the Mavs might make such a move for a MINIMAL increase in skill over Damp while looking for something bigger and better next year or in another deal this year. From all of the moves being made by other teams and basically nothing big by the Mavs, I can pretty much see that we will not be able to compete this next season. We will do OK and may even make the playoffs but without a big trade we will do nothing more. So far it seems JKidd is our biggest deal in the works (hoping that is) and that is to keep the team the same as last year. We all know that the team last year will do even worse this year as others improve their teams significantly. Oh well.. I can HOPE for some big trade around the corner.

#3How can soft contribute to soft? It seems that your bias against non-Americans is blinding you.

Ask Samuel Dalembert how soft Gortat is? Most of his points in the playoffs are either DUNKS or LAY-UPS.

July 3, 2009  09:59 AM ET

I could not think of any better example than Marcus Banks and Tony Allen as hotdog and showboat nobodies who gets a free pass because of being an American. Had they been euros, they would have been branded as circus acts.

I love my America soooo much but I can't stand some Americans.

good bye dampier, thanx for nothing...gortat welcome

July 3, 2009  10:21 AM ET

Orlando's team is getting gutted. They aren't going to be as good next year.

My comment has nothing to do with non-Americans! I was talking about Dallas as a whole when I made my comment, not just Dirk, though I do think he's soft. I happen to think the NBA is FULL of soft American players as well, not just Euros. I also think guys like McGrady, Battier, Damon Jones, are soft, and many others. They just don't have the mental toughness to win when it counts most... in the playoffs!!! That lack of mental toughness to me is a form of softness.

No reason NOT to invest a mid level in the guy-
he has potential.....
we'll see if he's just a good back-up or whether when he plays
actualy minutes he gets exposed..

I think it's a good move for the Mavs- but they STILL need to
add another player or they are in deep doo doo in the west

Battier

and how is Battier soft? Has this guy ever been injured??? The only thing I can think of is that he flops on defense but how exactly does that make someone soft? It makes him a cheap defender that uses the rules to get the ball but not soft.

July 3, 2009  11:14 AM ET

The Mavs need alot more than Gortat!

July 3, 2009  12:24 PM ET

Anything is a upgrade at Center over Dampier so its a good move for the Mavs but still they are the 6th or 7th best team in the West...but Orlando is looking worse by the day....Lost Alston,Lee,Battie,Hedo and now Gortat...all for a ancient Vince....Orlando doesnt have a chance against Boston and the Cavs now...

July 3, 2009  12:52 PM ET

this is to all you lakers fan, you guys are terrible winners. the only reason the lakers didnt get ariza is cause they were offering less then the MLE, your precious lakers were being jews. i hate how you guys says houston is a going no where team when they took you guys to 7 games with out two the there biggest stars, i hope ariza has a chance and can prove he might be a star in this league. cause lets be real if you play with kobe you are nothing but a role player no matter what your potential is.

I have to agree oldschooliscool, maN, i love my country but there are some morons living in it today! Cruse1 is obviously a little man sitting somewhere spittin tabaqui and grabing his tiny junk. Probably never played a day of organized sports cause he was the last one to be picked on the playground. let me tell you something any professional that gets to the level of the NBA may be soft but is WAY WAY tougher than you, shrimp-o. I bet Gortat's hands are bigger than your head and would send you flying if he **** slapped you ONCE. Im not standing up for Marcin, dude is 6'10 im sure he can defend himself, i just hate lazyboy quarterbacks that eat cheatos while screming at the tube. And listen up **** Dirk played very good defense last year, battier is a stud defender, so its very clear that not only are you fat and short but also ignorant. put that in your pipe and smoke it bubbagump.

July 3, 2009  12:54 PM ET

ps lakers fans quit being **** and get your head out of your ass and remember there are 30 other nba teams. also learn to win graciosly and give teams there props and not blame it on a bad game by your lakers

July 3, 2009  12:56 PM ET

I also think that it is a good move by the Mavs on Gortat. He has shown good starter potential when given minutes. But Mavs still NEED to keep Bass.

As for Orlando, I said a week ago on a Hedo thread, Orlando has got their priorities mixed up, and that mix-up is causing more than a face-lift / tweaks but almost a transformation.

I am not saying Carter is a horrible move (but only if they can keep the 'major' parts of their Finals roster together.) They now don't have a solid back-up pg in Alston. Their best SF is on the verge of leaving them. They don't know who the starting SF will be just yet. They now don't have a back-up at all at PF behind Lewis IF he plays at PF next season. They now may not have ANY back-up at C behind Howard. That, my friends, is very, very disturbing to me. I hate it happening to a fine team.

Now, Does that sound like a team who defeated the defending champs AND the best team in the NBA at the time in Cavs on their way to the NBA Finals? They still have time to right the ship. Not a lot of time but if they charge after Hedo, Wallace, Bass....maybe they can do something.... Looks like Artest and Ariza, the most desirable SFs this summer have gone to their rivals.
