I think A-ROD did him in and Tom was never able to make money after A-Ro's contract was done on his part.

hicks is one of the worst owners in sports period. such a loser. i cant wait till he sells the rangers. i guess he didn't make as much money off them as he thought he would

He should sue arod for breach of contract and get all the money back from that steroid using man boobed mirror kissing freak.

How typical. The Billionaire Bailout continues. We the people are so ignorant.

over extended himself like so many others. He's still worth a lot, just doesn't have enough liquid assets. Selling the Rangers is his best option since they are worth more than the Stars.

what?

July 4, 2009  01:22 AM ET

The Rangers are in Texas, enough said!

July 4, 2009  02:02 AM ET

Someone should tell this guy to give the Pirates ownership a call! For the past 17 years we've paid the team nothing, traded away every good player we've had, and sold out about 0 games!!! Fans are dumb, ignorant creatures though. They'll spend just enough to keep the team afloat. Wait, I'm just bitter! Screw this guy!!!

How is it that Walker, Texas Ranger is so cool, but MLB's version of the Rangers suck so much?

July 4, 2009  11:10 AM ET

why should we care about this

July 4, 2009  12:52 PM ET

Another Bush crony.....Perhaps if he hadn't had given millions to George W. he's be in bettr shape...

But who's fault was that? A-Rod's? Of course not. Hicks made the offer and who WOULDN'T turn that down?

if by enough you mean the best economy in the US today and that has cities that are actually growing?

"if by enough you mean the best economy in the US today and that has cities that are actually growing?"

LOL - that's a classic bensti ... as a proud Texan, I love it. We have home prices that aren't overpriced, so the "bubble" didn't hurt us. In fact, the latest figures show a slight INCREASE in home sales pricing over the past few months. Jobs available, although a bit limited right now ... Enough natural resources to be totally independent if we wanted, and it might just come to that at some point - the way things are going, maybe not too far off either. We do have our share of idiot politicians, but name me a single state in the U.S. that DOESN'T - esp. along the upper Atlantic coast and lower Pacific coast.

Now - Hicks is a different story. The fans around here have long tired of his terrible ownership. When the top two teams in a division are only 1/2 game apart, and play each other, you would expect more than 18,000 fans in attendance, but that just shows you the level of disgust with local fans over the history of the Rangers franchise under Hicks. Granted, there were more than 30,000 in attendance at last night's game, but hey, it the July 4th weekend with one of the best fireworks show in the area at the game, so I don't count that.

Spoken like a true Texan.

However, I just got back from a trip through Dallas, Austin and San Antonio. Looks like you may be short on the most important natural resource of all:WATER.
