NASCAR drivers wondered aloud how Jeremy Mayfield won an injunction to return to the sport following his positive drug test result, but most stopped short of saying they feared for their safety Thursday during interviews from Daytona International Speedway.

They stopped short of saying that, but it's the message that was inferred. Listen to Jeff Burton's comments. He all but called Jeremy a drug user.

Oh, are we still on this one?

July 3, 2009  09:13 AM ET

Geeze! NASCAR said so.... it must be true!

You think drivers like Burton are capable of thinking on their own?

Kahne and Kyle Busch noted that racing with Mayfield was not an issue to them.

Said Kahne: ???I never raced with Jeremy, even at the start of the year. He???s at one end, I???m at the other.???

???Normally we???re ahead of him anyway,??? Busch said.

No Fear. LOL

Jeff Burton needs to retire. I have been a loyal fan of Burton's since his Busch Series days. He is the younger version of Mark Martin. He doesn't ever try to push his car for a win and won't even fight for position anymore. As far as what he has to say about Mayfield, what does he know? He acts like the know it all in the garage area and doesn't know ****. Burton is big part of the COT program and directly involved in the demise of this sport.

At this time, this entire mess is a moot point simply because Mayfield won't be racing after all...THANK GOODNESS! Ryan Newman spoke for most of the other drivers, but Jeff Burton was absolutely right in his comments. From what many of the independent owners were saying, theres no chance Mayfield will be working for them PERIOD! Looks like its time for Mayfield to find another profession and he has NOBODY to blame but himself. The dude is damaged goods and if he were an honest man, he'd realize when he looks in the mirror, he see the enemy!

Only poor people do meth.. does Mayfield have cash.. LOL..

Who cares..

"NASCAR would be so much more exciting if drivers and their cars were allowed to dope up without restrictions. Its closed-circuit racing. Its not like any kids anywhere would ever emulate any of the drivers on public roads. Nah."

I would think that other drivers would support Mayfield more. Even if they are as unsure as the rest of us about "did he, did he not". NASCAR says it has the 'goods' on Mayfield but it seems like Mayfield truly believes he is innocent. How can we know who is telling the truth?

The other drivers MUST recognize that this is totalitarian NASCAR regime ruining a driver 's reputation and career yet providing no way for him to clear his name. The 'process': NASCAR says, it is so.

I don't know what Mayfield did or didn't do...maybe he boned a France cousin and didn't send flowers and thus pi*sed the family off, maybe he smoked crack, but the point is, NASCAR says he did something and cans him for it and there is no way for him to clear his name and reputation except through the court system.

Wise up you NASCAR drivers; you, too, could piss off the powers and be next to ride the railroad.

Good point. He is thinking about entering republican politics after his NAPCAR career is over.

Do not think the Mayfield's are going to have Jeff Burton & his wife over for dinner anytime soon!

No, but they would probably show up for a champagne and blow hot tube party.

I meant hot tub party. Kids, drugs and booze are bad for your mind. Just ask Jeremy Methfield.....or me.

Mayfield lawyer said, " that for Mayfield to have that much METH in him, he be a zombie or dead"

That may actually provide some clues to his racing performance.

And a big NAPCAR mouthpiece in addition.
