Sto-Rox senior wide receiver Andrew Carswell made a verbal commitment to Pitt, giving the Panthers seven players from the Class of 2010 in the past 11 days. Carswell had offers from several schools, including Michigan, Michigan State, Boston College, Syracuse, Maryland, Duke, Vanderbilt, Wisconsin, North Carolina State and Stanford.

Pitts been on a roll lately. 3* big boy at 6'4" 210.

Congrats to PItt. Unfortunately for this kid, he isn't going to play for a good coach. Great recruiter, but crappy coach

July 3, 2009  10:50 AM ET

If only the stache could figure out how to coach, or recruit a QB.

Looks like the Panthers are pulling in some good recruits. Is this Wannstedts make or break year???

July 3, 2009  11:15 AM ET

there is a reason why he didn't pick Michigan. They already have the WR and most likely told him they are full at the position. That might change if Prater decided he wants to play for UM and UM would take him being he's the #1 WR in the land.

Is there any other insight you can provide on this from your meetings with RichRod

The reason he didn't pick Michigan is because he would rather play for hometown Pitt. Why do you have to rationalize it to yourself by making excuses? Pitt has a young talented crop of WRs too.

Some of you Big 10 guys are too much.

Here is what I have heard about Wanny. I was in Pittsburgh for an interview a few months ago. I was talking to the guy interviewing me and the topic ended up to PItt football, since he is an alum. I asked him how Wanny was still the coach, and he just shook his head. He agreed with my assessment that there is no reason why anny should still be there, but pointed out the administration's blind love for the guy. Also he pointed out that he knew some families with highly recruited prospects. He said that they were being recruited by Pitt, Penn State, and Ohio State. Each family said the same thing, and that is that no one connected with them better than Wannstedt. He blew away Tressel and Paterno.

I have seen quite a few Pitt fans try to blame Wanny's woes on Cavanaugh, which I think is crap. However, now that Cavanaugh has been run, you no longer have any excuses anymore.

I didn't make my point clear. I wasn't hinting that he wanted to go to Michigan. Just stating he wouldn't have, even if he wanted to, because Michigan already has their class full at the WR spot. Sorry for confusion.

I wonder why.

2000-04 Pitt goes to 5 straight Bowl games. (then fire coach)

2005 they hire Dave Wannstedt.

1 bowl game in 4 years.

He has got to be the best person in the world in order to keep getting chances at high profile locations and faililng at each one.

Now if only Michigan can fill the other 21 positions.

July 5, 2009  02:38 AM ET

And is that why just two recruits with ridiculously strong family ties (see parents still working at Pitt or played for Pitt), just decided to commit to Paterno's Penn State? And by the way, Paterno doesn't even bother visiting recruits any more. Last kid he physically visited in house? Terrelle Pryor. Must suck to still lose the recruiting battle against a man who doesn't even leave his house for recruiting if you're Wanny.

that last comment #17 was directed at kramer02 (comment #12) when he said "Also he pointed out that he knew some families with highly recruited prospects. Do not be suprised or offended if your comment is deleted by T&R. They informed me that they had deleted one of my comments because I quoted another deamed in violation of their policies.

They didn't fire Walt Harris, he left the school for Stanford. Try getting your facts right.
