UCLA announced that safety E.J. Woods is no longer part of the team. Woods, a 19-year-old from Encino Crespi High, said in a telephone interview today that he will transfer to Santa Monica College, enrolling this afternoon, with intentions to be there through December before attempting to enroll in another four-year university in the Pac-10 to play football next season. Woods said he will not try to rejoin the UCLA football team.

Unless he straightened up his act this kids trouble. But this is a good quote.

???I???m definitely going to try to come back to the Pac-10. I???m going to work extremely hard this year in junior college to get better physically, get better mentally and just to mature a little bit, and then go back to a four-year, finish my time there and then go to the NFL. That???s the plan.???

This kid needs to mature ALOT. Look for him to end up in Seattle after next year.

July 3, 2009  11:30 AM ET

A LOT is an understatement... sheesh...this is criminal waiting to happen. This kid needs help.

He wants to go to USC.

"Currently, Woods is facing six charges of battery and sexual battery stemming from three incidents at off-campus apartments between October and January, said a spokesman in the the Los Angeles city attorney's office."

exactly right.

Hard to say whether he's out at UCLA because of the charges or because he wasn't happy with his spot on the depth chart but I have to say I'm glad the team is shedding troubled players. If there was anything that Karl Dorrell deserves credit for it's bringing a strong sense of discipline to the team...I'd like to keep it that way.

Best of luck to the kid, hope he gets it together.

He's not comin here. Holt (our old DC who is now in Seattle with Sark) wanted him, but Pete didn't. He will end up in Seattle.

Seattle, jail same difference. (Sorry Terry).

What all this means, is he realized he was going to be academically inelligible so he beat them to the punch by quitting - then starting somewhere new.

Typical UCLA Bruin student-athlete. Another example of how UCLA got the nickname Thug U. I mean their assistsant coach was a burgular, their kicker damn near killed his girlfriend in a DUI accident and fled the scene and then got back in time for PAT's at their next game, what's going on with this program? With a 4-8 record and a rep for harboring criminals why don't they just stick with Basketball?

And it's a sad state when Santa Monica City College offers a better life opportunity to a student than UCLA, but I can't say that I didn't see SMC eventually surpassing UCLA, I just didn't know it would happen this soon.

It's easy to miss, since UCLA is irrelevant.

Yes their pretty powder blue uniforms and cute golden helmets may be disarming at first glance. I agree, the team looks like the Santa Monica Blvd traveling boys choir, but you can't judge a book by it's cover. If you aren't from SoCal you may not have been following the Bruins depraved downward spiral. From athletes getting handicap parking passes so they can park in front of fire hydrants and red zones, to the faculty of the university selling cadaver body parts for profit, to Karl Dorrell's assistant burgalarizing homes through the week, to numerous other crimes. The behavior by UCLA athletes would have resulted in huge scandals if their football team ever won more than half of their games. I'm actually kind of surprised this story made it to T&R as most of their team exhibits behavior like EJ Woods, unfortunately it seems they get away with it more often than not.

On a related note, Woods is the 6th Bruin to leave the program since spring practice 2009. I guess that's what happens when you have two "great" coaches like Chow and Neuheisel. I can actually picture Norm Chow looking at his watch counting down to 2011 when he can go looking for a real job.
