Patriots not likely to sign McGinest

A league source tells us that the Patriots are not likely to stop the car and ask Willie McGinest if he knows how to use a mop-wringer. Though the Patriots haven't avoided older players due to their age, the older players must still have a high level ability. McGinest, per the source, doesn't. One possible destination would be Miami, since it was Bill Parcells who drafted McGinest in the first round in the months before the league's 75th season.

I was wondering the same thing. Guess profootballtalk has low standards. If you can spell football, you're in.

Didn't T&R just say the same thing yesterday?

July 3, 2009  09:23 AM ET

Willie McGinest is a 37-year old pass rusher that only tallied 1 sack in 2008. No one cares where he ends up.

The story that never was.

Fans not likely to care

Willie: "Hello, is it me you're looking for? I can see it in your eyes. . . " Man, I love Lionel Richie.

Go home and read a book, Willie

Maybe they want him for 4th quarter "mop-up" duty.

July 3, 2009  11:53 AM ET

They didn't want him when he left so why would they want him now when he is older and no longer plays at a high level? It would be a feelgood story but it isn't happening and I don't see Parcells going for him either.

What does that mean, especially in the context of this thread? That anything can happen? Well, duh!!!

Dave, we Occidentals should not dismiss Confucian philosophy with its metaphoric allusions to the heavenly bodies.

It is cultural arrogance and a good way to get a loogie in your next bowl of egg drop soup.

50, what are the details? Willie gets a 3/4 million dollar veteran minimum salary, but how much of that counts against the cap? What is the cap relief for the older players?

Are the Patriots better off with those few cap dollars and a younger player?

Please keep the loogie out of my egg drop soup. No telling how I would react. I have tried to understand other cultures, with some successes. Still, I maintain the comment in question had neither relevance nor pertinence. Good to see you back.
