Jazz looking to trade Boozer?

Having gone through the rosters and payrolls of every team in the league, I don't envy Jazz general manager Kevin O'Connor should he try to trade Carlos Boozer and avoid a lame-duck season with the two-time All-Star forward. The Jazz also would probably prefer to trade Boozer to an Eastern Conference team to avoid strenghtening any rival in the West and especially in the Northwest Division.

Worry about first things first, resigning RFA Millsap, because if another team offers a pie in the sky 5y/65m contract to Millsap, Utah may be able to match

I would highly doubt Milsap can get that type of $$$
- I mean he's a NICE player- but you don't max him out
he averaged 13 & 8.....VERY RESPECTABLE - especially the boards
but giving him the farm is a mistake
If someone DOES offer that much $$- ta ta-

He is a replacable commodity- there are other guys like him
even currently on the market- Bass, sideshow, he might be the
best of the lot- but he ain't Karl Malone

I agree. The Jazz are in position to lose Kirilenko, Okur, Boozer, and Millsap. It's time to button up the future. They can't afford to lose their whole core.

Please send Boozer to the Pistons. They have the money and need someone to snatch boards since they're going to lose Rasheed and probably McDyess. Villanueva has some upside but boarding and defense are not his strong points!

lol...that was a real nice way of putting it....
if this was a week ago (before him coming to your team)
you would've said he SUCKS defensively, no ?

Word to DET, CV 5y/40m avg of $ 8m = OVERPAID

I wouldn't say 8 mil per is 'overpaid'...but I'm not sure he was
the best option out there for them-
Also his 8 mil per isn't going to 'kill' their cap in the long run

- I think the length is more the problem
he strikes me as a guy that with all that guaranteed $$ coming
his way- he ain't going to 'self-motivate' and improve

July 5, 2009  11:29 AM ET

How about Boozer to my Bulls for T. Thomas and Tim Thomas? This would be clearly a money move for the Jazz.....................................Or Boozer to Detroit for Rip Hamilton, i think this deal would help both teams. I like the Jazz and feel they have to upgrade the SG posiotion(Brewer is a back up)

The Overpaid part comes from CV, Q.offer with the Bucks would have been only $ 4.6m and I guess I do not see CV as any more than $ 6m. So Joe D in DET prove me wrong!

Good point. 2 schools of thought.
1.) Joe D. makes sure that neither CV nor Ben Gordon leaves Detroit without an agreement in principle, so he pays more than anyone else.
2.) a 5-year contract indicates that both players are likely to be around for some time. Perhaps its part of Joe D's "sales pitch." I can almost hear him, "I'll pay you your potential, go out and earn it."

July 5, 2009  01:07 PM ET

That's the prevailing thought, another move is coming. I disagree their not a playoff team because the East is weak. Their not a legitimate contender but their right in the group of "also rans."

the bucks were stupid not to at least make the Q offer-
but regardless- at his age- that would;ve have been WAY
too low for him.....
6mil or 8mil is basically the same-
you are overpaying now- and IF he improves in the next
2 years- then at 8mil he's a bargain.....

As I said- I just don't trust him with a guarranteed contract-
look at Eddy CUrry

pines for the days of stockton and malone. stockton and malone.. pick and roll.

July 5, 2009  01:51 PM ET

They should, the Jazz ain't catching up with LA or the Spurs with the current roster.

July 5, 2009  01:53 PM ET

The Jazz know unless Boozer leaves Milsap is gone even for less money...

July 5, 2009  02:08 PM ET

Keep Boozer, forget Millsap!!!! THey're both young, but Boozer rebounds as well as Millsap, and has an offensive game Millsap will never have. Injuries are something you have to take a chance on with a player to win. The Heat did that with Shaq, and what happened?

Defense is also not a strength of Mr Boozer's.

And to think, it was just a couple of years ago that the Jazz were in the Western Finals and considered to be a young team on the rise.

okay sign millsap and keep boozer make a run for the playoffs and next year you have all that cap space to use

July 5, 2009  06:25 PM ET

Millsap will be a better talent. Unlike Boozer, Millsap actually wants to win, rather than look for more money.

I actually disagree with the notion the Jazz should trade Boozer. If I'm someone like New York who's looking to clear as much cap space as possible to make a move for LeBron, I jump all over that. The Jazz actually have something some teams would kill for right now: two expiring contracts that would clear space for 2010. If I'm Kevin O'Connor, I hold Boozer's contract until the PERFECT trade proposal hits my doorstep. Like it or not, Boozer's gone after this season. It's a matter of getting as much as you can in return.

Oh, and to the Knicks organization, and specifically former Knicks employee Isiah Thomas, I'd like to thank you on behalf of the Jazz in advance for that Top-5 lottery pick for next year. We'll take very good care of it and treat it like gold.

I meant to say I agree with the notion the Jazz should trade Boozer. My bad.
