Kings trade doesn't shock Smyth

Like graffiti on a deserted factory building, Ryan Smyth could easily see the writing on the wall. "Obviously, they wanted to move money, and I fit that criteria," Smyth said Saturday, one day after being traded by the Avalanche to the Los Angeles Kings for defensemen Kyle Quincey and Tom Preissing and a fifth-round draft pick. "I'd heard the rumors, and usually when they're that strong, there's something to them." Smyth thought the Avs would be the last team he ever played for when he signed a five-year, $31.25 million contract in 2007. It didn't turn out that way, not after a last-place finish in 2008-09 and the Avs in a rebuilding mode. "They want to go younger and less expensive," Smyth said. "And I respect that. I have a lot of respect for Mr. (Stan) Kroenke and the Colorado organization."

"...traded by the Avalanche to the Los Angeles Kings for defensemen Kyle Quincey and Tom Preissing and a fifth-round draft pick." - WOW... How the mighty has fallen or in this case should we say value? What did NYI trade to get him as a rental again?

they should pull out the old Silver and Black jerseys from the kings Wayne gretzky era

July 5, 2009  01:24 PM ET

I just hope this guy helps us get into the playoffs for the first time in like 15 years.

this is the same clown that cried after he priced himself out of edmonton for a measly 200k. The guy was a freakin hero in EDMONTON, his career has been spiraling downward ever since. Good riddance, you deserve LA you stupid prima donna.

i say the lakers purple and gold from the dionne era. At the very least it would be distinctive and it would be one less freakin black jersey.

"Us"?

You live in El Cajon, ese. You are slumming in the South-east barrios of San Diego. Don't try and make it sound like you are part of the Kings organization.

Don't confuse where I am, with where I am from dooshbag. I was born and raised in LA, and was going to Kings games before you were an itch in your old mans pants.

That being said, I am hoping we get some solid play between the pipes. It's been a sore spot for us since Hrudey.

Not in the cap era.

I thought it was 500K? So it was really 1.5 million over 3 years.

What ever it was, it wasn't much, especially since it is so cheap to live in Edmonton.

Don't look know but BGM is trading everybody again! LOL

Good for Ryan Smyth. This situation might be his best chance of winning a Stanley Cup. This team will be scary very soon.

Your line-up with Smyth:Smyth-Kopitar-BrownThats a solid 1st line.

A 2nd line consisting of: Frolov - Stoll / Schenn - Willliams is not bad either.

I concur. Money can't buy you love.

Sweetley just tried to kick his own butt, and missed that too. FEEL DA HEAT - Smyttie - as it is so nicely turning out, is starting to look like Dunny's #1 competition for the last left wing playing spot, on THE team that really matters ( should it be, when they don't pay ya beans aaaaall - but of course, sacre bleu, don't be a hoser, EH). And now he's gonna be playing on the first line, AND fulltime powerplay, for one of the better young teams in the weaker division. Ha,ha,ha... he could be a 20 goal man by Xmas - while The Grim Heaper, might just be, riding the bench on a last place team ( best case scenario). Of course, that ain't gonna happen - there's no justice in this universe.

Sorry it didn't work out for Smyth here in Ava-land. He was nothing but class while he was here. Kings are getting a quality hockey player. Will be an interesting night, though, at Frozen Fury 12 in Vegas in September.

Here, Here! Though I don't like that the Kings seemed to be sitting on their hands as soon as free agency opened up...
