NHL investigating Blackhawks

The Blackhawks are being investigated by the NHL and the players association about whether they properly filed qualifying offers to their restricted free agents, according to Canadian sports Web site TSN. The league could rule the qualifying offers invalid, making players such as winger Kris Versteeg and defenseman Cam Barker unrestricted free agents and forcing the Hawks to pay much more to retain them. At issue is whether the Hawks notified the players of the offers. General manager Dale Tallon told TSN he believed the offers were sent in time but might not have been received in time because of the July 1 holiday in Canada. Hawks management reportedly said it followed protocol and does not expect to be penalized.

Geez, now Scotty is playing mind games with the league!

Blame Canada?

July 5, 2009  11:25 AM ET

Didn't you hear? They were trying to move NHL head office out of N.Y, because they were losing money. Maybe they did and didn't tell anyone?

I would take Kris Versteeg back in a heart beat

In what way does this article fit under Truth or Rumor? Slow day perhaps?

July 5, 2009  02:27 PM ET

Don`t worry, the league won`t let anything bad happen to the Hawks because this team is one of the future gems for the league. A strong Chicago market will do wonders for the league. It`ll give em a presence throughout the midwest and it will give them alot more tv time.

To be fair,Chia and NOBODY expected Kersteeg to be a scoring machine once out of Boston. We still shouldve gave him a decent look-see at the NHL level though. Its still sickening. We couldve had one more good young player.

It could be worst, you could be stuck with plekanec and the kostitsyn sisters.

July 5, 2009  02:28 PM ET

worse.

Isn't that always how it works?

Looks like Tallon made a rookie mistake. Filing it right under the wire. He blames Canada too. Must be watching South Park that guy.As for those players becoming UFA's,that would be cool. Chicago would be forced to match the offers and then shed some pay-roll. I can think of a couple Red Wings fans that would be loving that.

UMMMM ROBERTS and Clintonion and others lol

Come on u wouldnt want to screw with the hawks after they just shelled out a big deal to hossa?

July 5, 2009  09:41 PM ET

Tallon has been suckling on the hind one since his NHL draft when he 'wasn't Gil Perrault'.

I see no reason for that not to continue.

Ouch! I loved Perrault and didn't care much for Tallon. That one still stings Hank. lol

This has to be the most bogus buizo yet, in an absolute plethoric litany of nhl methane-laced lunacies. I'd be amazed if any of these guys involved, even think anything of any of this. Is this really the kind of thing, that anybody would want to take advantage of, even if it did make any sense at all? Talk about your bad faith, hokus-pokus, malarkie - speaks volumes to the idea, that someone at the league-level is playing bovine smelly games, and, doesn't like Tallon, or Ciudad Mexico Norte, or, the Well-tanned Hox owners, all that much at all.

It set the tone for the Hongcouver Canucks too. Perrault was an instant star. Tallon? What's worse he got invited to the 1972 Summit Series training camp based on his draft.

Unlike Kirk Muller who actually was a very good, solid hockey player and had a very good career. Even though he was 'sloppy seconds' to Mario.

At least when Hongcouver got Linden and not Modano it worked up closer to the Kirk Muller scenario.
